"Looks like we have company coming, Sharda," Krikor
says finally standing up and removing the piloting ear
bug and replacing it with his perscom. He stretches.
"You'll come with? You have a lot more tact than I
do," he grins.
The owners of the freight have already called back to
arrange for final delivery of their goods.
Killian & Sons will arrange for local stevedores to
unload their cargo tomorrow morning.
Mr. Brown of Brown Brokers called to say that he
would arrange for the locals to unload the day after
tomorrow, but if you agree deliver his freight to him
at Parlek Port he will pay an extra 2,000 cr.
Krikor checks his manifest for how much cargo that
would be. Brown's cargo is 15 dtons...you decide.
"You've got 15 tons. Let me check with customs, since
the're on the way out here, and I'll confirm with you.
I'll call you back."
"Excellent, Captain." Mr. Brown says, "I will be in my office
for the next four hours, but can be contacted by mobile at any
time."
Parlek Port is a combination sea, air, space port
that serves the Parlek Republic. The Parlek Republic
owns a very large portion of the northern
continent...most of its land is too cold and dry for
settlement, but large farms, plantations and ranches
make up the sections closest to the southern coast.
You haven't heard Robert Solasksi, but as the ground
vehicle starts toward the ship a call from him comes
...
Krikor beats Sharda to it and takes it on his personal
comm. "'Allo, Akus Moby here. May I help you?"
"Er, yes." says the man on the other end, "Professor
Robert Solasksi here. I receive a message that you called
to me earlier. You have the shipment from Glisten for my
project, yes?"
"Yes I do."
"Please, be so good as to not have broken the security
seal. the man continues, "I have a need to arrange for
you to deliver this container, unopened, to the project
site, yes?"
"Well, it ain't been broke yet," the skipper says, "and
customs is on their way out there right now. I don't
suppose they'll be opening the shipment, seeing as how its
sealed. And I'll ask about renting a vehicle or otherwise
delivering it out to your site."
"The cargo contains animal control devices, Captain." Solaski
says, "Illegal, to be sure, on Griffin Island, as they would
be called weapons, but legal, certainly, on Piazia. Piazia
Island where my University's research project located is, is
where you must deliver my container. I will arrive at your
ship to brief you on protocols for conduct on island and
delivery, yes?"
