Celandra is a game in which the players take the roles of societies, rather than playing individual characters. The players will invent a society with its culture and heritage, and will guide its development and interaction with the world. Emphasis will be be placed on developing a detailed history of Celandra, along with myths and legends.

[Main] 2nd Call for Societies

> --What is your societies name?

The Rim Tribes.

> --Summarize your society in a few lines. This will be used on a society
> cover page.

A loose composition of ships that explore the universe in search of a place
to live.

> Geography
> --Where is your society located? You can get geography details from
> Proposed Human Geography which I’m posting the same time as this.
> Alternately you can answer referring to where other societies are; for
> example “near the Hegemony.”

The tribes are scattered about but they started on the rim of the Nexite
Hegemony. Each tribe maintain a near distance within each other to
facilitate communication.

> --How much does your society interact with others? (I.e.) How close are
> you to other players?

The rim tribes depend heavily on trade to survive the cosmos. They intereact
with others on mostly a business sense but they never reveal their history.

> --How big is your society? Does it contain a habitable or marginally
> habitable planet? Does it cover multiple systems? If so, how spread
> out is it? You needn’t give a population figure, just an estimate of
> large, tiny, etc.

There are about 50 tribes consisting in total a small population. Most
tribes inhabit one 1 large vessel but a few tribes have managed to travel in
a small fleets. Those tribes with the fleets depend on the tribes with the
large ships for resources and travelling through hyperspace.

> --Is your society particularly rich or poor in any resources?

The tribes in the large vessels contain lots of information plus large
hydroponics bays. The rim tribes lack in other needed goods like fuel for
powering their ships and to power the hyperdrives.

> History
> --What did your society do during the rise of the Hegemony?

The rim tribes didn't exist during the rise of the Hegemony.

> --What did they do during the Century of Fire?

The rim tribes appeared because of the Centure of Fire. During the eugenics
program started by the Nexite government, a secret research facily worked on
mixing amphibian genes into the human genome. The idea was that since
certain amphibians (the ones whose source of genes came from) were capable
of naturally entering cryo sleep and in fact able to stop their heart and
come back to life when the environment presented themselves, it would be a
good asset to space soldiers. Even if their pressure suits were unsealed,
their bodies could be easily recovered and reanimated. Plus, artifial
crosleep expenses would drop. The experiments were successful with side
effects such as an extra protective eyes for different pressure system and
secretion of a mucus under different pressure systems to prevent outside and
inside exchanges. Unfortunately, exposure of these soldiers to hyperspace
caused mental instabilities that quickly caused death. Their natural cryonic
state helped these new space soldiers to survive hyperspace.
During the war, the secret facility was attacked but the space soldiers
escaped. The soldiers found a space junkyard once belonged to the Hegemony,
fixed up the ships and scaterred about in an attempt to forget the past and
forge a new future.

Culture
> --Societies often display a degree of schizophrenia regarding goals.
> What are a few major divisions?

The rim tribes' goals are mostly split between the various tribes. Each
tribe try to coloborate for the survival of their tribe and their respective
tribal allies. The means are split up. Some beleive in interecting lots with
outsiders. A few beleiving in stricking either at the remains of the
Hegemony or the ones who attacked the Hegemony (those are 2 different
groups). Some beleive they should find a planet asap to colonize. Some don't
wish to deal with others and try to seek an isolated system to settle up.

> --Does your society have any areas (technological developments or
> skills) where it’s better or worse then the average of Human space?

Generally, this people aren't very technologically developped. They've
learned enough to repair their ships and simple hydroponics prodeceadure to
be close to the average of Human space but it's still below norm.

> --Is there any special emphasis towards or away from the military?

In general, the rim tribes haven't concentrated on much offensive power
unless the ships they found had such capabilities. Certain tribes have the
more aggressive fleets but all of them realize that taking offensive actions
at this point isn't the best policy. The rim tribes needs preparations
before entering any war. Raiding could be possible though and certain tribes
attempt it.

> --Do they have any special relation with Psionics? Mass hatred,
> promoted in the gene pool, etc.

Psionics hasn't been demonstrated much within the rim tribes. Certain people
with psionic abilities that can help are placed in positions to better use
those abilities. Those with hindering psionic abilities tend to hide them
else they get killed.

"We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. "
