09/06/01 Was the last posted warning. You replied by breaking rules of polite converse 09/07/01. Further, you were warned that societies became NPS after 3 turns of inactivity. These actions are the players responsibility, not the GMs, and, as yet, no policy for "default actions" exists. This was reiterated. (It is purely a matter of logistics on the part of the GM--default actions are infeasible within the game constraints and that is a separate discussion) Your reply was...less than mature. By 09/09/01 I was dealing with requests to have you banned from the list. This was not an individual decision and was based predominantly on your insistence on turning the list into a running stream of insults. (Note: you were NOT banned from the list.) I have made no secret of what I define as acceptable behavior and converse on the list and I do not believe that it is an issue for debate. I also have no problem with you playing the Razanians if you will play them. (Stating 'of course they are rebuilding and I don't need to send in turns--if you weren't stupid, I wouldn't need to tell you that' is not, in my opinion, playing a society). However, the burden of proof is now yours; it is your responsibility to convince the various readers of this list that you will not fill their e-mail with pointless sniping and insults. You used your one 'get out of jail free card' when I did not bump you for cursing on the list earlier this summer. It is difficult to accept that you will not lapse back into old habits after perhaps a few months of good behavior but I am willing to extend a second chance. However, understand this--the responsibility is yours and the leash is very short. I also do not speak for everyone involved on this (although I believe they will respect my decision). Thus far, you have strongly implied that your problems are with Jason. So be it, the dual GM system was long ago instituted to deal with this situation and, had you been more inclined to a constructive solution, you could have requested assistance at any time. So, at the risk of offending the other GMs, let me say this: If you wish to play the Razanaians, I will resolve their actions. I will even go so far as to ask that you give me a generic rebuilding action which can be applied to the missing years so that the society will not be unduly hampered. However, if I have to go this far out on a limb to give you a second chance, I want there to be no ambiguities--one more problem, one more complaint, and I will have no choice but to have you pulled completely. Most people on this list already know, I am neither a patient nor kind man--understand that this is an extremely gregarious offer. If this is acceptable, I need the actions by the end of the week. M. Keaton A breif personal aside for those who are confused by the "tsunami" issue. The decision to strike the Qai coasts with a large wave was mine, not Jason's. The disaster was provided as an opportunity for society development, not a punishment. NO societies suffered enough damage to have ANY determinants adjusted. Players of coastal societies could have used this as an excuse to effectively redesign their people or, at the other end of the spectrum, they could chose to ignore the event entirely (gee, my people got wet--oh well, we live on the coast). I would also like to point out that this was the first disaster to strike Qai in centuries. Here in the States, Fluorida gets at least one hurricane a year. Japan gets an earthquake and tsunamii on average of every five. Chile gets these major disasters due to volcanic activity on an almost continual basis. It is not unreasonable to expect this inclusion of similar natural disassters on the yearly events. I believe the tales of the damage of the great wave have been greatly overstated and I wish to dispell those myths which have arisen. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send mail to celandra-off@phoenyx.net.
