Celandra is a game in which the players take the roles of societies, rather than playing individual characters. The players will invent a society with its culture and heritage, and will guide its development and interaction with the world. Emphasis will be be placed on developing a detailed history of Celandra, along with myths and legends.

[Cel] Latitude of Damaris

I wouldn't say warmer but definitely more temperate. I've tried to figure
the climate out myself. The continent ranges from desert to heavy woodland
with no truly 'cold' areas. The northern portions bordering the inland sea
and the southern forests below Videssia have previously been described as
effectively european.

My best "scientific" theory is that, since Qai is in the southern
hemisphere, it is also a more temperate continent due to the axial tilt
which places it in a more favorable position for receiving solar energy and
rainfall. That would give the continent the environmental profile of Africa
or South America. Where N50 is cutting across Canada, S50 is Argentina and
New Zealand. Still, it's a poor comparison. On average, I'd say, based on
the backgrounds and descriptions of the different parts of the continent
would make a latitude of 50 on Qai more like a latitude of Zero to 10 on
Earth.

Like I said, it's a poor explanation. Qai has temperature extremes but the
societies tend to be highly agrarian or nomadic with a very high level of
"primitive" tribal peoples still surviving among the more advanced
societies. The weather as a whole seems to be mild and wet. Mentally, I've
come to look at is as an "Africa-like" continent. What does everyone else
see in their mind's eye?

While I'm rambling:

Daves, pick a society and let me know.

I do agree that the northern reaches of the continent have a lot of
territory and a very sparse population.

And finally, as relates to Elyria and the tsunami: Jusso is 100% correct.
The actual ruling on the amount of damage was "as much as you would like to
have." No determinants were changed unless the player wanted them changed
and chose to use the event as an in-game excuse. Even the peoples who had
colonized the islands were largely unaffected. (It was only a tsunami--no
worse than a severe hurricane. Nowhere near as the western coast of Chile
faces every year.)

Subject: [Cel] Latitude of Damaris

| Dear fellow players,
|
| as far as I can determine from the map, Damaris lies South of 50 degrees
| latitude. Under earthlike conditions this would suggest Patagonia or
Vancouver
| Island rather than the Mediterranean. Even with the full benefit of the
Gulf
| Stream, Cornwall would probably not be called subtropical. Is Qaiyore
| considerably warmer than a similar continent would be on Earth?
