Just curious: is "Exquaesito" a typo or the Ka'Shari pronunciation? Sorry ... that's a typo. It's the best my memory could come up with for the spelling without going online and looking it up. > Weight: Single > Description: Our new Trade Mission in the Free Cities has put us into > contact with various groups who desire transportation. It's hard to hold high hopes. This is not a good year for this as Exquaestio is more concerned with consolidation than expansion. (Also, their best person to send to Mir is uneasily pregnant with her first child this year.) Additionally, much of Exquaestio's success derives from the fact that its members are also members of the culture being converted. They can't really explain _how_ they convert people, they just _do_ it. ------------------------ Okay ... you had said you would want to do it this year, I thought, and so I went ahead and posted it. If you would rather not, I'd be glad to change it to putting more effort in our dragon hunt. ------------------------ Possibly Exquaestio and Ka'Shari can work out some sort of agreement? Exquaestio would be willing to trade something in exchange for being generally and permanently being allowed "working passage" on Ka'Shari vessels, but I don't know what the Ka'Shari would want in exchange. ------------------------- We certainly don't mind providing working passage to land dwellers. You don't need to do anything in particular if you're willing to work, but the number of ships available is pretty small. (I.e. 0-2 per year) ------------------------- There's also the matter of the relations between Parglug and Ka'Shari. Good relations with Parglug are important to Exquaestio's future (even at the expense of poor relations with Ka'Shari) and Parglug might resent any competition within their dominance of the southern Midsea sea trade. (Of course they'd approve of anything which hurts Videssia.) -------------------------- Total Ka'Shari population: approx 5700, not all of whom are involved in trade. I submit we can't possibly compete with a nation if it wants to trade. We are big enough to make a difference, but we trade from practically the equator to the pole, so trade around the Southern Midsea probably involves 10-20 Ka'Shari ships, most of the time. We *do* specialize in luxuries, which is a tighter market, but that's what makes trade with the more distant regions profitable -- and if they stick to the Southern Midsea, their competition is rather less. > Suggested Results: ---: Ship sunk or the Exquaesito folk die on shipboard > for some reason > --: Terrible cultural problems: they make it there but hate Ka'Shari > -: We learn little from the exercise > +: We gain a bit from the exercise (+ to next effort to expand the Wanderers) > ++: We learn a lot (bonus to Wanderers' ability to establish relationships > in a town) and the Exquaesito do, as well. This action should end up establishing Ka'Shari external relations with Parglug (base Fair (0)) and Exquaestio (base Good (+1) to Great (+2)). ------------------ Well, if you aren't going to do the action, then there's less to worry about. We can forget it until you ask for the help again? And our current relations should already be Fair.
