While going through my personal library, I found a book which I heartily recommend: _Ancient_Inventions_ by Peter James & Nick Thorpe. It's really rather astonishing how sophisticated our ancestors were; the battery first appears around 200 A.D., brain surgery goes back to the Neolithic period, and the Romans built the world's first theme park (the Oracle of the Dead at Baiae). It helps give an idea of what sort of technologies might be possible in Qaiyore.
