I had hoped for more information to come out In the continuing dialouge , But the basic info is this The panchayya are not motivated to trade by material circumstance. Sedonian merchants would grow old offering wealth, only to be told that they are only "praying at the temple of the holy coin-purse, and it makes your spirit grow weak". Sedonian ships that land would be well fed, given flowers, have their sick treated, pelted with constant one-sided questions, given a limited amount of personal exchanges, then told to leave before they disrupt the balance of the land. In order to make a profitable business sedonia would need to bring gifts and get endorsements from one of 4 major clans, and at least one of the 7 temples. The temples ask for little material compensation, but provide tests. The clans look for tribal expansion, cultural commonality, and bonds of kinship. these could be translated into 1-the bond of blood 2-the bond of brotherhood, and 3- the bond of milk (marriage). the bond of milk also lifts certain restrictive limitations on trading. It also allows more regularity and better access to goods, as family obligations are fulfilled first. The traditional Panchayyah gift of tribute to a clan one wishes an endorsement from is "The Gift of 7 Canoes". Six of the Canoes are filled with large amounts of all the goods the petitioner has for trade in small portions to be distributed among the people. The 7th canoe traditionally has " a pleasing woman from an honored family with the kiss of her mother", if the bond of milk is sought, otherwise the 7th canoe contains something that symbolizes the intention of the giver. Kaeir has a colony in panchayya because it has " paid tribute in blood, and spears. They help to rebuild the face of the living god (restore territory)". They have endorsements from the grand chieftan, and the temple of the serpent. Kaier has an understanding that they have the say in all non-Panchayyah ships entering Rimriver town, for ten years, in exchange for an assortment of things. The only possible exception involves that Panchayyah tradition of treating the infirm, and emergencies. ---------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send mail to celandra-off@phoenyx.net.
