As others have already written, excellent post Carl. I'd been
expecting that that in the end it would probably be a group of 3-5
people who ended up making the final decisions, but you wrote the
reasons out a lot clearer and better than I could have done. I don't
have a problem with the suggested veto power of the editor in chief -
after all, if he veto'd something that everyone else on the committee
supported, they could easily oust him with a no-confidence vote.

I'm hesitant about whether it should be 3 or 5 on the committee
(steering group is almost a better name - committee has too many bad
images associated with it and not getting any work done =) ). With 5
you can start to get bogged in discussions, but you have a broader
base of people to do work. With 3 you have a smaller and (hopefully)
more focused group, but it can be a lot more fragile if one or two
have to leave for various reasons. I guess in the end a group of 5
with a strong leader to keep everyone moving is the best solution -
if enough people can be found to join.

Which would lead to the next big question - how do we pick the people
to join? I already suspect who two of the people would be - Carl and
Brett (they can have a death match to decide who the Editor in Chief
is =) ). How are the others picked? First to put their hand up, as
was suggested in Carl's post? But what if more than the other 3 put
their hand up? A group vote isn't really suitable, since we don't
really know enough about each other to say who would be a good person
and who wouldn't. Perhaps (assuming both Carl and Brett were on the
group) they would pick the other members? Better hope they agree on
at least one person, cause there's no way to break a tie vote with
just the two of them. =)

Ah well, however its chosen I'll throw my hat in the candidate pool =)

Cheers,
Jason
