Subject: Summary of alternative dice systems?

I've Googled around a bit and been unable to find definitions of simple 
things like "4dF.1".  While the probability charts are truly marvellous 
(and what program are you using?  It *is* a program, right?), without 
knowing what they refer to I'm not sure what to do with them.

So, as the subject asks, is there a summary out there somewhere?
