Subject: Spam and the Fudge List

Okay, those of you who've posted in the last week (not too many; I think
after the big traffic surge everybody rested their fingers) will have
noticed that the messages haven't been going back out in a timely manner.

Part of this is my fault... the server daemon errored out, and I didn't
notice it, and we don't have anything automatic monitoring it right now
because it's been in transition.

But I restarted it over 24 hours ago, and there's a wee problem... it's
been running SpamAssassin against every incoming email, and it's not able
to catch back up with the flow of spam. The Fudge List gets around one
spam email every 20 seconds, and SpamAssassin takes anywhere from 5 to 60
seconds to examine it, depending on what else is happening on the system
at the time.

Do the math.

So I'm switching to a whitelist system. This won't affect anybody other
than those of you who send mail from odd addresses... now instead of
reminding you that that address isn't subscribed, it's just going to
silently discard it. So make sure your alternate addresses are
up-to-date so the Phoenyx will always recognize you:
