What you can do is possibly lay a curse - a rather nasty curse - on the copy. And only by removing magic in the area will the curse be gone. What's worse, since the cursed one is a copy, the curse will slowly start drifting over to the PC as well. Thus if the PC does not try to dispel the curse, s/he will end up cursed themselves. Of course, I'd do this as the beginning of a storyline with the heroes chasing after the Villian. Maybe the villian does the curse hoping that the PC will not realize the curse is there until it's too late. Or you could have the copy being Dominated and thus turned against the group. Only by destroying or dispelling the copy will the Domination go away. After all, if they try any of the traditional methods (Protection spells), once the spell fades, the Dominate would return. This one is a particularly evil approach. (grin) Heck, we recently had the group wizard end up Phantasmal Killer another party member, who has such an obsession against the Derro that he keeps killing them before the group can get information out of them. PK (in my games) does not kill. Most of the time. It just knocks you out (0 HPs and all that) for a couple weeks without healing magic. In the gnome's case, his worse fear was his brother fighting against him. And refusing to listen to the gnome's reasons. (grin) The trauma of the incident erased several weeks of memory from the gnome's mind. This also resulted in the gnome forgetting where he placed the traps in the wizard's tower which had been built, and invaded several times by an assassin out to murder the wizard (convoluted plot). This will probably result in the wizard needing to build another tower... as the thief went hog-wild on those traps and the wizard doesn't want to risk being killed by a fluke.
