Sounds like you need to dispose of your known conventions and adopt a new set of archetypes. I'd suggest writing some short stories in genres you haven't explored before. I agree that the fantasy/adventure genre is typically very stale and repetitive, although I don't believe it has to be. Try some contemporary tales of "coming of age," "tragedy," or "romance." Then translate these to your genre of choice.
