This is exactly what I'm working on for a Phoenyx column Real Soon Now... particularly, steali^W er, taking inspiration from other real-world cultures in building fantasy cuisines. The trick is finding something your players hopefully won't recognize, that isn't too bizarre to actually find ingredients for (assuming you're actually going to cook "in theme" and not just describe it), and that everyone will like (easier the closer to the xenofoodophilic Hacker Stereotype your players are). It helps if you know the history behind how a cuisine was developed, either for plausibility or just color commentary, too. -- Karen J.
