The Lack Of Surprise

bah.

I ran my HOL game diceless....and there was nothing BUT surprise.
It's how you use the tools
(and I include players with "tools")...

A game with dice (or random modifier of choice)
will be different than one without.....

it's a style thing: NOT a "fairness" thing....
the "good GM" goes with the flow......if dice are needed, roll 'em.
if decisions are needed, make 'em.

there are advantages to dice:
they give you something to do with your hands
random advice
and you don't get "wandering xp" so much with diceless.

but as a player,
in diceless I still take risks.
I don't PUSH the GM until they want to break.....
but I make 'em think.
I make 'em react.
I nibble at the boundaries.

and frankly, I'll roll the dice the same way.

...and everything naughtie ....
