Longevity has been a big issue at the Phoenyx... originally, it was *the* issue. We started out not caring how good a gamemaster's game was, as long as it continued. And somewhere along the line, we started cherry-picking the entries, until it became a Big Deal to have a proposal good enough to make the Phoenyx cut. Trouble is, there doesn't seem to be any correlation between gamemaster "quality" and game longevity... or if there is, it's a negative one, where "really good" gamemasters burn out quickly. So we've kicked around several ideas, and I'm not sure there *is* any one good answer. The thing that works best is having a backup gamemaster... those of our games who've survived longest have generally had at least one turnover, usually to one of the more active players. Has anybody been in any really long-running online games, and have they gone through turnovers, and if so who took over? -- Karen J.
