A combination of things has killed my interest in going to the local "game store" (actually a comic store with a moderate amount of roleplaying stuff)... the fact that they *do* only have a moderate amount being one of them. But another part is just the fact that the chances of finding something new-and-interesting is slim to none with the Internet as a news source. At least once upon a time, I used to go in to page through something I'd heard of on the 'net, but anymore I don't do that... partially because not as much interests me, but even more because the stuff that *does* interest me is not the stuff that the comic/game store sells. (Ever since they got stuck with ten copies of GURPS Time Travel, they're not into taking risks... even if something sells fast, they don't always rush to reorder.) Anyway, Stikfas inspired me to visit said local game store (they didn't have any, though I didn't actually ask), and found out they've expanded. They've now got two different gaming areas, three or four folding tables each. Yi-Gi-Oh tournaments and whatnot. This is vaguely saddening to me; I remember meeting in their "attic" (a loft used for storage) in a cramped little space in their old store, to play Car Wars and roleplaying games, lo these twelve or more years ago. Why couldn't a game I *liked* have caught on enough to warrant making real gaming space? -- Karen J.
