Kalyr is set in my original fantasy world of Kalyr, and focuses on the struggle between the ancient and decadent kandar civilisation, and their rebellious human slaves. It features psionics, arcane technology, strange alien races, mystery and intrigue. Influences include Gene Wolfe & Jack Vance, but don't let that put you off!

Kalyr: 76c - After the Battle

Reylorna wanted to comfort him, tell him there was nothing to fear,
but after what she had just done that might not be true. She tried
influencing the man with an image of the mirror without the shimmering
field.

There is an image in the man's mind of the terrifying creature that
had attacked the Karazthan, all tentacles and teeth; it hangs in
space, then vanishes.

"Can any of you folk read Old Kandar?", Duplar asks, "It seems to me
that long long ago we shared a language with these folk. But then they
went their way and we went ours."

"Some of this kit is new and it hasn't come out of any Guild workshop
I know of. We could have built the controls themselves, but what they
control is so far beyond me I am not sure I even know the right
questions".

Leaving the wounded Kylar to Ryzar's ministrations, the teacher
strides over to their prisoner. He looks the man in the eye; Dharak
doesn't need his empathic sense to tell him the fellow is terrified.

"Your companions are slain," he ventures in Konaic. "And hope not for
help from the kandar or Quaan guards," he adds, pulling out the energy
pistol he took from one of the catmen. "Turn off that machine,
brother, and you can walk out of here with your life."

He complements his steely gaze and threatening words with a mindspoken
suggestion that the man comply with his demand.

The man is now more terrified than before; the blue button marked
"Yuruvu U*toi" briefly flickers in his mind. His mind is drawn
towards the shimmering with a thought towards escaping.
