Kalyr is set in my original fantasy world of Kalyr, and focuses on the struggle between the ancient and decadent kandar civilisation, and their rebellious human slaves. It features psionics, arcane technology, strange alien races, mystery and intrigue. Influences include Gene Wolfe & Jack Vance, but don't let that put you off!

Kalyr: 78e- The Mirror Closes

"What the heck are those?" Roy asks, pointing to the cat people..

"We don't know!", Responds Duplar.

Hank's day has been strange enough that he doesn't react overmuch to
the cat-people. Very little will suprise him for a while...

Once the others have moved out, Ryzar waits until Dharak signals him
it is time for them, too, to fall back. However, just as he starts to
leave his place of concealment, his eyes fall back upon the control
console for the so-called "mirror". Frowning, Ryzar looks back to the
tunnel from which the footsteps were heard, then back to the console.

With a sly grin on his face, Ryzar brings upo his dartgun, and snaps
open the handgrip -- removing the clip of solid darts with his last,
precious clip of flamedarts. Snapping the handgrip closed, Ryzar
quickly brings his handweapon to bear on the "mirror" control console,
and fires of a pair of the precious flamedarts into the device.

**Now use THAT, Kolder scum!** Ryzar thinks to himself, as he follows
the others out.

The control panel explodes in a shower of sparks, and a tongue of
orange flame emerges from somewhere within.

There are no obvious signs of living targets; perhaps whoever they
heard had decided to retreat in the face of superior firepower.

[Do the party leave the prisoners tied and bound? I'm assuming they
do]

The party retreat along a side tunnel, much lower and narrower than
the large chamber they'd been in before. After about thirty yards it
emerges into a second large diameter tunnel, running parallel to the
previous one.

Hank addresses Reylorna in the clearest tones possible:

"Are we safe here? If we are, I have some questions I'd like to ask."

"I think so, but we'd better not stop until we're outside", she
replies, pointing towards the light at the end of the tunnel.

"Keep your eyes and ears open", Jaldaric says softly, "And let's keep
our voices down, we know there are more of them about. We won't be
safe until were well clear of this place.

The tunnel reminds both Hank and Roy of a subway tunnel, only rather
bigger. Both notice the tunnel is circular, and lined with some form
of concrete.
