Kalyr is set in my original fantasy world of Kalyr, and focuses on the struggle between the ancient and decadent kandar civilisation, and their rebellious human slaves. It features psionics, arcane technology, strange alien races, mystery and intrigue. Influences include Gene Wolfe & Jack Vance, but don't let that put you off!

Kalyr: 97d - Debriefing (Hank and Roy)

"Focussed at one end" Galtheyn leans back. "Interesting". He pauses
in thought. "How on Kalyr did they focus it? Was there a mentalist
there? Can you remember?".

"What can you tell me about wherever it was you came from", Galtheyn
asks.

"I'm from the United States of America, the same as Roy, though from
another region... what would you like to know about it?".

"Is that a city, or a world?", he asks, "Do the people of 'Merika'
know of Kalyr and it's people?".

"And finally", says Galtheyn, what can we do with you?".

"That, I don't know", Hank says, "I'd like to get home, too. In the
meantime... Well, I spoke with Mr. Duplar, and he mentioned the
Karazthan. The Technical division, mainly. What is it like? I'd like
to hear from you..."

"I don't know if Jathren and Duplar have told you much about how our
guild is organised", says Galtheyn. He pauses in thought again. "We
have three divisions here. There's the Administration Division; they
do all the paperwork, and do all the dealings with other guilds. Then
there's the Security Division, their role is to protect the guild from
out enemies. And finally there's Technical, with more people than the
other two put together. We build and maintain every machine in Kalyr.
Much of the work we do in our workshops; we have places like this in
every large city. But some Technical people have to go to wherever
the machines are; everywhere there's one of our machines, you'll find
people from Technical. Even at sea; some of us are sailors, looking
after the engines.

"I wouldn't mind a job working with horses, or on a ranch", says Roy,
"I could fix cars, too, if you had any normal ones. But mostly, I
think we need to be gettin' back home"

"Horses?", replies Galtheyn, "What sort of machine are those? Or cars?
I think our machines will be quite different to the sorts of things
you're used to. It all depends on how quickly you two can learn new
things. How about we give you two a tour of the workshops?"
