Kalyr is set in my original fantasy world of Kalyr, and focuses on the struggle between the ancient and decadent kandar civilisation, and their rebellious human slaves. It features psionics, arcane technology, strange alien races, mystery and intrigue. Influences include Gene Wolfe & Jack Vance, but don't let that put you off!

Kalyr: 97a.1 - Debriefing (Duplar and Jathren)

[Repost]

>"I totally agree that the humans will have to be treated with great care.
>However, while their knowledge could be of dangerous, their attitude could
>be even more so. I talked with one about thier home societiy. In their
>homeworld humans come in different types and they are divided among
>themselves. These humans come from the superior type and in their own eyes
>occupy the same niche as Kandar do in our society. I do not know how well
>they will accept that they are inferior to Kandar.

"Then they will far better off within the Karazthan than pretty much
anywhere else", says Kala, "As you ought to know by now, our guild is
the sole organisation in Kalyr where a talented individual may rise to
any rank purely on a basis of ability. Look how the rare human
Wizards are persecuted. Compare that with Jathren here. You've been
taking orders from him, despite his race".

>How trustworthy would I consider them? Well I don't know. I suspect they
>will treat us as we treat them. This means that we must ensure they do not
>come to the attention of the more humano-phobic groups. This would
>convince them that we are enemies and I think that would be a very bad thing
>becasue the only thing we could do then would be to kill them. Their
>knowledge cannot be allowed into the general population.

"I don't wish to kill them, if it can be avoided", Kala replies, "We
must convince them that the likes of The Knights of Kardak do not
represent the kandar people as a whole. And I think you exaggerate the
danger their knowledge represents. How many people do you really
think will believe them?".

"There are all sorts of human cults preaching all kinds of nonsense",
Jathren says, "A few are watched as potential dangers, many more are
just the ravings of lunatics. Talk of a world where humans are masters
and kandar are slaves will just be dismissed as cult talk. Still, if
we let them wander the streets, we will need to keep them under
observation; but I think they are more likely to be in danger than be
a danger themselves. Perhaps we need to convince them that to keep
their mouths shut is the best way to ensure a long life?".
