Kalyr is set in my original fantasy world of Kalyr, and focuses on the struggle between the ancient and decadent kandar civilisation, and their rebellious human slaves. It features psionics, arcane technology, strange alien races, mystery and intrigue. Influences include Gene Wolfe & Jack Vance, but don't let that put you off!

Kalyr: 97d - Debriefing (Hank and Roy)

> "We have religious factions where I was born, too. Would it offend you, if
>I asked to hear about yours? Simply, as a stranger who'd like to learn, of
>course."

"The Guardians are the powerful beings that bought the Kandar to Kalyr
in ancient times. Now they live in a star above the world, and watch
us. They speak with their priests in the temples, and the priests
pass on their words to the people. According to the priests at least,
the Guardians are all-wise and all-knowing, but that doesn't seem to
stop them from disagreeing with each other.

>"Was there some sort of disaster? That made you lose things, that is?"

*"Yes, it's all connected with the mirror that bought you here",
Galtheyn replies, "Many people died here, and much was destroyed".

>Hank takes a look at it - naval engineering isn't a field he has even
>one foot in, but he has been boating, and has seen large ships on
>Earth...

This is nothing like the size of a cruise liner or supertanker; it's
probably similar in size and shape to a 19th century Mississippi
riverboat, although there's no smokestack or paddle-wheels.
