Kalyr is set in my original fantasy world of Kalyr, and focuses on the struggle between the ancient and decadent kandar civilisation, and their rebellious human slaves. It features psionics, arcane technology, strange alien races, mystery and intrigue. Influences include Gene Wolfe & Jack Vance, but don't let that put you off!

Kalyr 105 - Prisoners [Duplar, Ryzar, Hank, Roy]

Not long after the unloading of the airship, apprentices summon Duplar,
Ryzar, Hank and Roy from whatever they were doing for an urgent meeting
with the acting guildmaster, Kala d'n Konyen.

"You've seen the airship", she says, as soon as the four are assembled,
"It's come back from the tunnel complex. We sent a combat team in, and
we now have control of the entire complex. The airship contains much of
the machinery. It also contains several prisoners we've captured.
Among them are individuals of races unknown to us, not native beings to
Kalyr".

"You three", she indicates Roy, Hank and Ryzar, "are not Kalyr natives,
and have known other worlds. I would like you to observe these
prisoners, in a hope of identifying them".

Part of the large storage cave at the back of the complex has been
turned into a secure storage area. It contains what the four recognise
as parts of the machinery from the tunnel complex. A lot of it is
burned or half-melted, and some looks to have been crudely sawn into
sections in order to get it out of the tunnel.

Kala leads them into another chamber beyond, guarded by two grim-faced
Security Division guards neither of whom Duplar has ever seen before.

The chamber has been divided up into several holding cells. The first
contains three of the orange-furred creatures, one of whom is badly
burned. The second contains a humanoid, more human than kandar, but
with a large bulbous nose.

"This third one is the most strange", Kala says, "He's completely
catatonic. It might be possible that the Sisters of Valarna can do
something for him, but I don't want to get The Guardians involved in
this just yet"

The mystery prisoner is tall and thin, like a kandar. He has an
alien-looking face, his nose close to bridgeless, his chin too small and
narrow to match the width of the upper half of his face. He wears
seamless light grey clothing, with a grey cap covering the upper part of
his face.

He appears to be unconscious, but is still breathing.
