Ack! That's the problem.  Sure, chickens were OK back on the old
Windows/VB Phoenyx, but with Perl I think you've got to use penguins.

Still haven't found the appropriate sacrificial creature for our legacy
Delphi client-server programs here at work. We've been trying
contractors, but no luck so far.
