Okay, the CARE package arrived with nick and DSL gizmo and line splitter and whatnot Thursday, and Saturday the advance scout for the telco came out and tested our lines (we're 900~ feet from the switch, and in the pipe five by five as far as line clarity goes). So tomorrow the real telco guy comes out and... well, we're actually not sure what it *is* he's going to be doing. Waving a dead chicken over the gray box, as far as we can tell, on account of we're hooking up the NIC and router and filters ourselves (so as to save having to explain "No, it's not a Windows system"), and it uses existing wire from our place on out. Anyway, we'll have a physical DSL line then. At some indeterminate point after that, our ISP switches on whatever magic *they* need to do, and then all we have to do (I think) is change our DNS entry and wait for it to propagate, and we're out there at high speed. Whee. -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners
