Opinion poll. But first, some history. Waaaay back when, the Phoenyx had a standardized format for all its web pages, and all the games had a main page on the Phoenyx. The format was based on Jelane's navigational-type stuff (http://www.erinet.com/jelane/), which meant a graphics bar down the left side of the page, and a row of buttons (which were variously also down the left side, across the top and bottom, etc.) for email- the-gm, forward, and backward (yes, we had a webring before there was a webring.org). Anyhow, this quickly turned into an organizational nightmare, especially after people started duplicating the buttons on their off- Phoenyx pages... every time I changed a script name or a file location, we all had to run around like idiots and edit the web pages wherever the links occurred. As a general rule, we'd be lucky to update everything from one change before I changed it again. This was not a cool situation. So then, after much consideration, I invented the navbar, a clickable imagemap. It was server-side, which has the advantage of being changeable here without my having to cajole people into updating their sites. Howsomeever, despite the fact that it's the only way to point people at the web archives of a list, and other nifty features, some people have had to be heavily coerced into putting it on their pages. From the Phoenyx' standpoint, this is A Bad Thing, because we have no other way of letting people know these features exist... so if all they know is listname-on, listname-off, they assume "phoenyx.net" is just another "egroups.com" and we lose the community feeling. So I'm curious, being as how I'm remodeling around here again and this is a good time to update the scripts/images... what's everyone's view of the navbar? Do you think of it as Just Another Banner Those Free Services Require, or would it be more useful with different options? colors? sizes? Or something else altogether? -- -------------------------------------------------------------- Listowner tools are found at http://www.phoenyx.net/listowners
