Req> faedor

I sent out a custom dobetter, asking for a turn example. I got back a
substantial amount of stuff and I don't have the time to read it right
now. If some of you can review it and let me know what you think, that'd
help a lot.

id = faedor
title = Faedor
blurb = The continent of Fäedór "Land of the Fae" was once home to
the Elves and mythical Myladrim. In the beginning, the
Elves knew nothing of magic, but the Myladrim taught the
elves its secrets and the elves held them up as gods. For
this, the Myladrim were rewarded with immortality and
punished with this curse: They would only exist so long as
they had mortals who believed in them. As the centuries
past, the elves began to forget the Myladrim had done for
them, that is when one of the last of their race,
Mesmerallun, promised to grant great powers to those who
would follow him. Mesmerallun took those who would follow
him from Fäedór and disappeared for a millennium. During
that absence, the gnomes, dwarves, humans, and goblin kin
appeared in Fäedór. The remaining Myladrim sought to bring
magic to the new races and did, but they soon began to
forget that gift. The Myladrim had all, but disappeared
when Mesmerallun returned with the elves he had polluted.
The newly arisen dark elves swept through the ancient Sylvan
Wood and laid wasted to many elven cities. Now the Sylvan
race of elves is faced with extinction and human realms are
soon to be threatened by this infestation. Will heroes
arise that can saved Faedor from this cursed fate?

genre = Fantasy
system = Dungeons and Dragons
about = I've been playing at "the Corner," a game based at Phoenyx
since August of 1999. That is the extent of my PBEM
experience previous to this venture, which I started
planning in November and started running over the holidays.
I've been running conventional games for about 7 years,
(I'm only 22).

I'm seeking inspiration for writing novels through
role-playing, and some of my players are interested in
collaborating, so we are experimenting in that respect.

I envision the game to be always open to a perspective
player who offers me a character that will serve well to
further develop this young world.

==========

Thank you for considering my creation for membership in the distinguished
Phoenyx family. I look forward to being part of that family that is so
committed to high quality gaming, and I hope the my contributions will serve
to further the reputation of the Phoenyx.

The abridged story of this world, as posted on the website is this:

The continent of Fäedór, "Land of the Fae," was once home to the Elves and
mythical Myladrim. In the beginning, the Elves knew nothing of magic, but
the Myladrim taught the elves its secrets and the elves held them up as
gods. For this, the Myladrim were rewarded with immortality and punished
with this curse: They would only exist so long as they had mortals who
believed in them. As the centuries past, the elves began to forget the
Myladrim had done for them, that is when one of the last of their race,
Mesmerallun, promised to grant great powers to those who would follow him.
Mesmerallun took those who would follow him from Fäedór and disappeared for
a millennium. During that absence, the gnomes, dwarves, humans, and goblin
kin appeared in Fäedór. The remaining Myladrim sought to bring magic to the
new races and did, but these new races soon began to forget the Myladrim's
gift. The Myladrim had all, but disappeared when Mesmerallun returned with
the elves he had polluted. The newly arisen dark elves swept through the
ancient Sylvan Wood and laid waste to many elven cities. Now the Sylvan
elves are faced with extinction at the hands of the Mesmeratim (dark elves)
and human realms will soon be threatened as well. Will heroes arise that
can saved Fäedór from this cursed fate?

I apologize if the special script used in Faedor does not agree with your
email server. I place diereses above the 'a' so signal that the 'e' is
pronounced, much like Tolkien did with Elvish. The accent on the 'o'
accents the entire final syllable. For simplicity sake, I will spell Faedor
in the common alphabet in all correspondences.

I expect characters that are round and well constructed. I want characters
that will come to life in their own right, with individual motives and
goals. This description probably sounds like a definition of good
role-playing, but that is what I envision. There is a multitude of
characters that can exist within the context of this created realm and I
prefer to leave it to players to use their imaginations to create characters
that can expand the mythos of Faedor. Faedor, and it's larger world Ambaar
(Faedor is a continent), are in their infancy and will continue to develop
with time. The characters will play a catalytic role as Faedor enters its
childhood and continues to grow in it's detail.

My PBEM experience is far from exceptional. I began playing at the Corner,
part of the Phoenyx, as Mi Li Phon in August of 2000. I started Faedor on
my own with a group of friends and a bit of networking in December 2000, so
it is about a month old. Most of the characters have done about a half
dozen or so turns that have led to or about to lead to meeting other player
characters. I do have one player that won't meet up with any of the other
players due to the geography of Faedor for quite some time and I will
included a sample my correspondence with him.

Following is a sample of turns from the existing game. I've included three
and a half turns between one player, who is traveling with five NPCs, and
myself.

Myself:
You speed your pace a bit and close in on the women. You overhear...

Shandryl: "I'd feel much better with an escort. We're barely trained
and we're being sent against the deadliest of opponents."
Kiriswen: "True, but Pontos Solastrian takes care of the few brave
followers he has."
Shandryl: "That may be, but I would feel better if he were traveling
with us."

At this point you catch up to them. About 20 yards ahead, Corcoran has
stopped and is speaking to another elf that appeared out of the woods.
Dhoniel is joining Corcoran and the newcomer ahead.

Kiriswen: "Now what do you suppose they're talking about?" She points
up ahead as she looks to you and Shandryl.

Player:
Fingolf says to Shandryl and Dhoniel" Let us go up see why they are
conversing, it might be of import on our trip," and Fingolf goes up and
greets the newcomer.

Myself:
The three of you approach. As you get near, you see the new elf's mouth
twist into a gleeful grin displaying fangs. Before you know it a web is
being thrown from this person's body and it envelops the group. You managed
to dive out of it's path, as does Kiriswen, but the other three are caught
in it. Kiriswen draws her sword and looks at you as you hear the
elf-creature say, "Come out, come out, where ever you are."

OOC: Let you know your intentions and I'll take care of initiative and
what not. Do you want to know actual numbers? Also, Rawn, the sixth of
your party is unaccounted for.

Player:
Fingolf's gets up and states "Flee, foolish beast, or you will feel the
wrath of the chosen of Pontos Solostarian" and I attack the vile beast,
calling out the name of my god as I attack.
OOC: Jeremy if you want to run the initiative and most of the battle that
will be great. But, if the occasion comes up I drop below 2 hp I want to
heal myself, other than that for speed just run the battle for me, except if
I need to make a major decision (Flee, Help companion, use paladin powers,
etc)

Myself:
As you stand, you are hit with a bolt of force, but you recover quickly.
You notice Kiriswen was also hit. She moves faster than you and scores a
solid hit against the elf fiend. As you rush forward and swing, you miss.
The creature bites into Kiriswen's shoulder and she immediately looks paler.
She makes a counter attack, but it is poorly aimed. You swing once again
and miss, but recover quickly and change your sword's direction and slice
deeply into the creature. The creature bites into your sword arm before you
can prepare a death blow, but you feel your body fight of the poison.
The creature then goes stiff and collapses to the ground. Behind the beast
you see Rawn with holding his bow. You see his arrow planted in the
creature's back.

Damage Report:
You took 4 points of damage
Kiriswen took 5 points of damage plus lost much of her strength from the
poison. She lacks the strength to move and says her armor is too heavy.
Rawn is uninjured, as are the other three who struggle free with some help
from Rawn.

Player:
Fingolf fights off the poison and moves to help Kiriswen remove her armor
and heals her, with my lay on hands skills. As he does it, he talks to Rawn
asking "Excellent shot my friend, do you know what that fiend was?"

Myself:
You have no lingering effects from the bite. Rawn inspects the corpse more
closely and turns to you saying, "Aranea, I believe. A shape-changing
arachnid. They were once rare, but in these times they've probably become
quite common."

The others are a bit disturbed, but physically all right. Shandryl lays
hands as well on Kiriswen who is able to stand and walk, but is still very
weak. She will be unable to carry anything. Corcoran grabs her pack and
says, "We'd best divvy Kiriswen's gear and keep going. The faster we get to
Greyhome, the better."

Thank you once again for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Jeremy Pickwall
