MGR: Buglet in subscribing

You know, I'd make better progress on the new version if I didn't keep
having to fix the old version.

I just discovered (in the course of changing my Akus subscription from
Bloglines to this account) that the iam/subscribe method of adding an
alternate and then bumping it to primary doesn't work if membership is
moderated. Durn thing intercepts the subscribe for moderation before it
figures out that it's just promoting an alternate and not a new
subscription.

It comes up so rarely (most of you have your lists set to the
vastly-preferred "closed" mode, which requires a confirmation from the
almost-member but not from the moderator) that I'm probably not going to
fix it right now, but it's something to be aware of. And unless you've
got a reason to have a moderated-membership list (which is not the same as
moderated posting) you might want to just set it to "closed." ("Open" is
now nonexistent, though it might appear as a selection or even as your
current setting. "Open" meant single opt-in subscription, which was fine
in a kinder, gentler Internet, but not these days. The software now
treats "open" and "closed" membership the same.)
