OOC: You don't get a dial tone. The comm reports that it is
"temporarily out of service"...satellite service here isn't the best.
You might just be in a temporary dead zone, perhaps you should try
later.

As you ride down into the valley you watch Woof still riding along the
edge of the 'lake'.

Jezebel taps her com again, "Well, I would, but that doesn't mean

Woof gives an uncomfortable laugh. "Nope. Not really. What do
you suggest we do now?"

"First we try to get support on the line, and take a quick look at
the other lakes and see if we have something similar in each lake."

Jezebel taps the phone. "I think the phone is dead Woof, I hope
thats not somehow oddly prophetic." Jezebel puts the phone down.
"Temporarily out of service, that's fitting."

Jezebel slings her rifle and starts head back towards where her horse
is, "Lets take a quick look at the next lake, see if we've got

She grabs the horse and starts to head over towards where Woof is.

Jezebel looks over at Woof. "How big you think that is? Keep in mind that
the first thing I'll do is take your male guesstimate divide by pi and come
up with something a little more realistic for its size. Seriously, I mean
it's clearly bigger than a bread box, but smaller than a four bedroom

>Woof rides with Jezebel...

The pair crest the ridge and ride across the valley beyond. It takes
them an hour to come to the top of the ridge on the otherside of this
valley, and as they ride, Woof notices they are riding more and more
in shadow.

Glancing up Woof sees scattered clouds, high cumulus clouds the sort
that spawn thunder showers in the afternoon heat. This is normal for
this time of year, but by all accounts has been rare the last few very
dry years. As they near the top of the ridge, he hears a rumble to
the east, and when he turns to look that direction he sees a wall of
dark clouds stretching from the southeast horizon all the way to the
northeastern horizon.

Jezebel keeps trying on the sat-cell to see if she can get in touch with

bothers me enought to want to get a better look at it."

Looking down from the rise, this valley looks eerily like the first
with a lake being where one should not be, and no sign of who created
it, or why.

You've come up a quarter mile up the valley from the dam and will have
to ride down, toward the southeast, to reach the blockage across the
stream.

The phone not working is a surprise to Woof. Being out of service for
a short bit wasn't abnormal, but not for an
extended period like this. Something must be wrong...

Yes. The water would flood down the valleys into the river. The river
is shallow and a flood like this would spread out across a wide area
as it proceeded down toward the ranches. It is unlikely to do a lot of
damage to the ranches, being back from the water and on higher ground,
but the river runs right through the city, where the land is quite
flat, and there isn't anything to stop it...

The horses gallop down the slope throwing up small clouds of dust and
causing pebbles to clatter down toward the blue water below. As you
race along the lake shore you see
another object in the water near the earthen dam. This time the water
hasn't completely covered it, leaving the top
couple of centimeters still exposed.

A long antenna protrudes from a cylinder sitting atop what looks like
another metal cylinder..or pipe..lying in the water. The metal is
shiny, corrigated, and you can't see any markings on the part of it
that is above the water line.

Jezebel hangs on for dear life as the horse gallops after Woof, she tries

another metal cylinder..or pipe..lying in the water. The metal is

As the horse pulls up she looks out into the water at the cylinder. "Ya,
I'm betting this isn't some sort of cosmic co-incidence."

If the cylinder is on this side of the lake, Jezebel pulls off her jacket
and starts handing weapons to Woof. "Looks like I'll be wet before you,"
she pauses for a moment as she hands him her rifle, "you know how to use one
of these?" As Woof takes a hold of the rifle she pulls a flat butterfly
holster out from the behind her back and puts it down by the where they're
standing before pulling off the shoulder holster.

She looks up at Woof as she starts to unlace her boots. "I hate reloading,
slows the whole thing down." A little smirk crosses her face as she pulls
her first boots off and starts to unbuckle her pants.

She looks up at her horse. "There's a single bladed knife in that pack on
the right there. You want to grab that for me? I'll need something
scientific to propperly perform my analysis."

He begins to wade into the water, trying to get near it. Do we have any

Woof's communicator reports "Out of service." too, but he turns up the
gain and listens to it anyway. He hears static, there might be signal
behind the static, but the static is overloading the circuits and
nothing intelligable is getting through. It sounds an awful lot like a
ship comm when someone is running a jammer in the neighborhood.

him playing with the radio, "Try lighting a fire, maybe we can get some
smoke signals through."

Jezebel dives into the water and starts swimming towards the object.

>Jezebel dives into the water and starts swimming towards the object.

The water is warm and clear. Jezebel's crawl quickly takes her to the
large cylinder. She finds the water a bit over 2 meters here, so she
can't stand. She has to tred water as she examines the object at close
range.

>From up close, and one the surface it looks like a long piece of
corrigated pipe, maybe like the conduits that are put under roads to
drain off water. Slowly circling, she sees that the front is closed,
it looks like a piece of metal, aluminium from it's appearance has
been bolted like a cap on the end, and when she gets to the back she
sees the same thing. There are no markings that she can see.

Looking at the cylinder's top all she sees is a small cylinder that
looks like it has been welded to the large cylinder. The small
cylinder has a long whip antenna emerging from it's top.

Looking down, it looks like the big cylinder is sitting on something
underwater, a sort of rectangular framework forming a shelf around the
cylinder under water. From the surface she can't make out exactly what
it is, though.

OOC: And Woof would know this? How? Jason would be able to know, and turn
his cell into a scanner that would read the insides of the cylinder, but
Woof can only liaise with it. ;-)

He tries sending a message out to the ranch, and then one to the ship,
telling them what we've found, and asking them to forward a call to the
authorities...

"Jezebel, sounds to me like a jammer. At least from the holovids I've
watch. Listen!" he says, holding out the cell to her.

OOC: Woof would have heard this sound while with Akus. He wouldn't
know how to do Jason's wizardry. Besides, Woof is the one that brought
up the idea of selling global sats way, way back.

Jez tends to agree, but she's not even the "expert" Woof is.

Jezebel swims around behind it and sights down the length of the pipe
towards the dam to see just where it's aimed before diving under the surface
to take a better look at the underwater structure.

Once she has a better idea of the underwater component of the mystery object
she looks at the method of securing the end caps on this thing and checks to
see how the antenna is mounted and if it's sealed properly.

She'll also stick an ear up against the side of it to see if she can hear
anything inside the mystery object.

It is aimed at the middle of the earthen dam.

>before diving under the
>surface to take a better look at the underwater structure.

Jezebel dives under the water and examines the structure under the
water. It is some sort of tracked vehicle, or maybe just a tracked
cart. Around at the front is a hitch where it could be attached to
something and pulled, and she doesn't see any sort of engine, so it's
probably just a cart. Strange that it would be here though.

>Once she has a better idea of the underwater component of the mystery
>object she looks at the method of securing the end caps on this

The front cap is bolted on. The rear cap appears to have been welded
into place You'd say both are water tight. To see about the antenna
you have to pull yourself up on the cylinder, it doesn't budge under
your weight, so it must be quite heavy.

The small cylinder is welded to the large one and the antenna is
coming out of what appears to be a rubber gasket. You'd say it is
sealed water tight.

>She'll also stick an ear up against the side of it to see if she can
>hear anything inside the mystery object.

Against the large cylinder you hear occasional thunking sounds, then
realise what you are hearing is vibrations from waves hitting the
cylinder...waves you are stiring up while treading water. It's not
empty, it's too heavy for that, but there must been empty spaces
inside to generate those echos.

Pressing your ear to the small cylinder you pick up a very low humming
sound.

Not really. Does there appear to be a gearing for turning the structure or
is it just hard welded into position? Also do there appear to be stabilizer
legs down here? How wide is the cart?

Jezebel mutters to herself as she swims around the device. "Large and
heavy, launcher, aimed at the dam, target, all ends sealed, keep water out.
So what do we have here? Launcher, remote controlled aimed at the center
section of the dam, keep the water out with seals."

While still straddling the device Jezebel leans over and grabs the cap end
on opposite sides of the cap and presses in with her thumbs checking the
ridgidity of the end cap. Is it flexable or heavy steel?
