Down in the Barn

OOG - It's Me, Arvitis and Woof down here right?

Jezebel points towards the large chunk of wood. "That a good enough lever for you big man?"

She taps her com, "Ricardo, we're going to try this by hand first but you may want to get those pallet jacks ready just in case."

"Could be." Arvitis looks down through the hole, and then
carefully lowers himself down into the water beside you and moves
over the the wooden beam, "Yeah, this should do."

Arvitis positions the wooden beam under the one pinning the man's
legs down and says, "I'll go on a count of three and you see if
you can free the man's legs, okay?"

"One, two, three...grunt!" the tall man strains as he pushes down
on the wooden beam, putting all of his weight behind it.

The structure groans and you hear snaps and pops around you, but
the lever seems to be working as the beam across the man's legs
begins to move up.

"Hurry!" Arvitis grinds out, "Can't hold..."

The rest of Arvitis' words are drown out by a bellow from the
trapped bull. It sounds like the big fellow wants out, NOW.

Woof, who was over near the bull, sees that it isn't in pain,
just agitated and probably frightened.

Woof is across the barn from the man, his son, Arvitis and Jez. He
wouldn't get there before it was all over.

OOC: So, Derek, is Jezebel going to try to pull the man's legs out
while Arvitis is holding the beam up?

As for a way out of the barn for the bull...

The hayloft window is near the bull, but it is blocked by bales of wet
hay. If those bales were removed the window could be widened, letting
the bull out. Otherwise you'll need to cut a hole big enough to let
the bull out.

Woof sees what is going on on the far side of the barn, and begins to pull
hay bales through the loft window. He tries to drag them inside the barn,
going so far as to cut them apart with his knife, if necessary. He keeps
going until he can see some light.

Objective is to quickly get to a place where he can climb out and begin
removing more bales more quickly.

Woof is making good progress clearing the hayloft window as he pulls the wet bales of hay back and drops them in the water. He can see light through the window, and then with a pull he has a hole a meter in diameter right through the window to the outside.

Once outside he pulls the bales out and in only a couple of minutes has the window cleared. The opening is still not big enough for the bull to get out, through. Woof is panting and his arm muscles are burning from the effort. He hasn't had to shift as much mass as quickly as this in months!

[Whatever!]

Woof says, "We can move the man and boy out the window here. Should work
more easily, then probably cut to the ground to release the Bull. Can we
move him?"

Arvitis picks up the boy and says to him, "We'll get your Dad out
next, lean over my shoulder and watch your head."

Arvitis carries the boy over to where Woof is and says, "Yeah,
good idea about the window. The plasma cutter is still on the
barn's roof, I'll retrieve it after I carry the lad to the ship."

With that he ducks through the window and disppears around the
corner with the sounds of slashing water.

He will reappear coming down the hole in the roof with the plasma
cutter a minute later.

Arvitis peers at Jezebel working over the man and says to her,
"Can we move him yet? I could throw him over my shoulder and
carry him back to the ship, but if he's got some sort of back
injury, then better not."

Jezebel nods and ducks down in the water grabbing the mans belt or belt loops, she intends to pull him straight back so he slides out from under the beam.

Jezebel pulls back as hard as she can in an attempt to free the mans legs.

Jezebel looks back as she pulls on the man, "Wolfgang we need to get that thing out of here now, if not sooner before it desides to create it's own exit and kill us all."

As Jezebel pulls the man lets out a groan, but he does move and the
legs swing around out from under the heavy beam.

Looking back at the man you see that he is grimacing in pain, and the
water around his now freed legs is pink.

"Perfect, help me get him up out of the water big man so we can see what's bleeding."

Jezebel does her best to lift the man to some place above water so she can see what's happening, she also does a quick feel around the mans belt to see if he has a knife. Most farmers do and it could be really handy about now.

Arvitis drops the lever and the beam he was shifting falls back into the water, then he helps Jezebel pull the man up on the boards above the waterline.

Yes, there is a knife sneathed on the man's belt. There is a tear in the man's pants leg and he is obviously bleeding, but the blood isn't spurting out.

Jezebel does the quickest prelimianry exam of a patient she's ever done to
assess the extent of his injuries and his suitability for transport.

She pulls the knife out of the sheath, flips it open (if it's a lock blade)
and slices the man's pants open from above the wound site to the cuff.
She's careful about this so as not to stab the man in the leg.

Jez pulls the pant leg back and sees the white of bone
protruding from an oozing wound on the back of his thigh.
The wound is oozing dark blood, not pumping bright red. A
quick once over confirms that the major injury is the broken
leg...or legs. In Jez's opinion, mmobilizing the leg, or
legs, better to put him on a backboard and completely
immobilize him, and then get him to the doctor asap.

Mira checks the status of the regen on the woman's leg. Another thirty
minutes before she could be moved, but there was the possibility of at
least two more wounded if they found the husband and son. And only one
empty bed.

She moved to the side of the pilot and checked his monitors. She brought

the same readings on both monitors, she disconnected the sick bay monitors.
She'd need a hand to help her move him.

"How you doing buddy? Okay? We'll have you up and out of here in no time."

Jezebel taps her com and starts to talk as she looks about for something to
use as a brace on the mans leg. Garden implement handle, long hunk of wood.
As her eyes cast about the barn looking for anything useful she slices the
other side of the pant-leg open so she now has two long pieces of fabric
instead of one

"Doc, we need a brace or a backboard down here in the barn. This fellow's
leg is broken pretty good. Compound fracture, viscous blood not arterial."

If she spots anything useful in immobilizing the leg she points it out to
Arvitis with a quick, "That'll work." If something like this turns up she
immobilizes above the wound with the two ends of the pant leg and below the
wound with the mans belt. Several wraps about the object and the mans leg
with each piece of material.

If she can get this done quickly she'll simply look at Woof and Arvitis and
to whomever has the cleanest top she'll hold out a hand, "Shirt. Now."
