Kelly is in Engineering preparing the ship for lift off. The ship has been on station power for the last two days and the fusion engines need to be fired back up. This involves firing a charge from capasitors into the fusor to initiate the initial fusion reactions needed to bootstrap the process. Normally, this can be done with power from Starport services, and that's what Kelly will do now. However, as Kelly prepares to do this he glances over at a rack of glaser powercells waiting to be charged. In the field where a ready power supply isn't available bootstraping a fusor can be done by putting powercell cartridges used by the glaser weapons down into the ignition chambers and firing them off. Back in the CSA Navy he made it a regular habit of drilling his people in this technique just in case they needed to coldstart the engines completely on their own. He wondered if Anspor had ever done this sort of thing... As he is thinking about it the comm buzzes, "Kelly this is Artivits, up on the Bridge, um...have we got a TMA with a spec num of V730-mp4 in stock back there. I'm recalabrating the broad band receiver on the PEMS and this TMA is running hot. It's not flaking yet, but I'd rather replace it now than have it blow on us upstairs. Could you check the stores database for me? He types in the spec number and queries the computer for the part number, then he brings up the system repair manual for the PEMS. OOG: What's a TMA? OOG: Hello to everyone and thanks for the welcome. JR/Kelly

You don't have a V730-mp4 in stock, but you do have a V728-mp4 TMA. The system repair manual indicates that as an acceptable replacement, although there is a warning that there will be some loss of resolution at long range. >OOG: What's a TMA? OOG: Bruce, the card, injected..."Totally Made-up Acronym" :-P...and that is close enough for our purposes. A TMA is a "transmetal macro assembly", it is a collection of wires, micro vacuum tubes and other components encased in a rather large ceramic block that is used in place of IC's IMTU. TMA's are heavier, larger and take more power than "real-world integrated circuits", but they are less damaged by the fields generated by the gravity technology of MTU. IC's have an extremely short MTBF when in artifical gravity fields, TMA's have a much longer one, so TMA's are normally used where weight isn't an issue. No but Ricardo can guess. "Kelly, Arvitis should be there by now to demand his parts...you and he can work this PEMS issue out.
