Mae Lee: 0997.263.1500 - Lifting Off!

Mira, Lysia and Woof have seen to the passengers. They have
been shown their cabins and the commons area, as well as the
gym. Most of the players are out of their cabins in the
commons looking through the entertainment carts you have.
The rest of the passengers are still in their staterooms.

Up on the Bridge, Ricardo, Shawn and Arvitis have the ship
ready to lift.

"Mae Lee. This is the tower, you're cleared to lift. It's
been a pleasure, hope to see you back again soon."

The data you need for orbit and the flight out to the jump
point has been downloaded into the computer, and you're
ready to lift.

Kelly is keeping a close watch on things in Engineering. He runs a
diagnostic on the jump drive as they lift.

Ricardo says "Roger, Tower. Hope it's more boring next time!"

On the ship intercom. ""This is the Captain speaking. We're about to
lift from Sequi Starport. Those who wish may view the lift from the
external cameras on channels 7 and 8 of the internal video feed."

To the bridge crew. "All right. Sitching to internal grav, now
and lifting" Ricardo eases on the throttle to lift the Mae Lee free of
the docking area, pausing to scan the belly camera around to make sure
*all* the umbilicals are inteed cleared, then lifts her free of the port
and into the traffic pattern.

I assume we're pretty much under direct local control until we're well
free of orbit.

Once we get into our transfer path, he'll make another general
announcement.

"This is the Captain speaking, we've cleared Sequi controlled orbit and
are in transit to our jump point. Estimated jump time is twenty-one
hundred hours this evening. Please don't hesitate to contact our steward
if you have any needs."

He swivels around in his seat. "Shawn, we're up and on the way. Go catch
some sack time. I'll get you up about 1730 or so."

He comms Engineering. "Kelly, I expect no news is good news? How's
everything down there?"

"Don't tell me twice." Shawn locked his station and made his way to his
cabin and crashed after locking the door.

You don't run into anyone in the corridor on the way to your

The ship's underbelly looks clear and all the telltales are green.

With a familiar, but slight, vibration you feel the power of the
ship as she lifts easily into the afternoon sky and angles up
toward the darkness of space. You note that the power level on
both the engines and the grav drive remain well within their
nominal ranges, and she is handling just as smoothly as the last
time you flew her. It's a nice feeling.

OOC: ...diagnostic is done. The jump drive shows no faults. Based
on the console telltails, and you "feel" based on long
experience, you see that power, life support and drives are all
running normally.

Several of the passengers come to the commons to use the
video feed there. Cory, Woof, Mira and Lysia see that of
the five passengers that have come to the commons are Marta
de Berg (entertainment exectutive), Alex Bodrue (the father
going to his daughter's wedding), Japp Centra (one of the
coaches with the Orlan Sea Dragons), Caja Apal (one of the
players), and Gropac (another of the players, a vargr)

The course is laid in and the ship begins its run out to the
jump point. There is a Mark Navy ship in a far orbit around
Sequi and the /Mae Lee/ passes within 100,000 km of it as
she passes by.

The ship gives the /Mae Lee/ a brief hail where a message
from the commanding officer of the Mark Squadren based here.
In the message he thanks Ricardo for his help during the
recent crisises and wishes him a good trip. He finishes by
adding, that the /Mae Lee/ and her crew are going to be
mentioned favorably in his reports.

Ricardo sends a reply back, saying thanks. After roughly half the run
out is completed, he'll go back to Shawns stateroom, wake him (if his
alarm hasn't woken him yet) says "All yours, you have the conn." then
heads to his statroom, sets his alarm for 20 minutes before scheduled
jump and sacks out for a nap.

The run out to the jump point continue without further incident
and 20 minutes before the scheduled jump...

...Ricardo finds himself standing in a dimly lighted corridor.
There is a flickering light coming from behind him and when he
turns he sees a pair of humans...at least they look a lot like
humans. One is a thin woman with pointed ears carrying a strange
looking flashlight that looks much like a wine bottle. The other
is a short bearded man dressed in some sort of primative combat
armor and carrying a large hammer. The woman speaks angrily in
some unknown tongue and Ricardo turns to run. There is a flare of
light and then...."buzzZZZZ!"...his alarm clock goes off, and he
awakes from his strange dream.

Ricardo scratches the itch on the side of his head and stretches working the kinks out of this back as he walks up to the bridge. Shawn and Arvitis are there, Arvitis looks up as Ricardo steps inside.

"Welcome back, Ricky. It's been boring up here." Arvitis says, "Nothing out here making a peep and Shawn's been just as quiet *in* here."

OOC> sorry I thought I answered that one.

Ricardo yawns. "Good, that's exactly how I like to hear it heading into
jump." He scans through the ship's systems on his panel.

" I've had quite enough of the 'Oh god oh god they're gonna catchus
wegotta JUMP NOW!!!' and 'Ahh what's a few diameters short between
friends' style jumps. I get enough excitement the rest of the time."

He leans back in his seat, and watches things as we get close to the
jump point.

At the appropriate time he says, to no one in particular, "Showtime
folks!"

He comms Kelly. "Yo sleepyheads. Wake up, time to start the hamsters
running. Strt energizing the jump drive and grids."

He says to Arvitis, "Active scan, make sure there's no rocks near us to
throw us off. "

He makes an announcement to the passenger quarters. " This is the
Captain. We are in final approach to our jump point, and will be
entering jumpspace in a few moments. "

He dims the lights.

He comms Woof and Mira "stand by, I don't know if we have newbies on
board or not, might have a few cases of the wobbles."

As we get near the jump point, Ricardo keeps the Mae Lee rigidly on the
course Shawn's plotted out. "On course, toggling verbal distance" He
flicks a switch and a mellow voice says " 25 k to nominal jump point"
the voice will continue the countdown every thousand kilometers. This
is also broadcast in engineering.

He then switches jump controls to Shawn's station. " 'Gator's switch
is live' Jump when ready."

Ricardo holds the course, waiting for Shawn to initiate jump.

Kelly has the fusion engines on full and can bring the grids and then the drive online at the Captain's order. He glances at the controls for the hydrogen flow...they show the proper pressure and volume ready to be injected when the Astrogator pushes the button.

>He says to Arvitis, "Active scan, make sure there's no rocks near

"Done." Arvitis announces, "Nothing out here but us and that big battlewagon over there...oops that's no battlewagon, that's a gas giant."

Arivtis grins at his own joke, "Seriously, all clear."

>He makes an announcement to the passenger quarters. " This is
>the Captain. We are in final approach to our jump point, and will

Woof, Lysia and Mira are on the passenger deck when this comm comes in. Woof is preparing a light meal for the passengers. Mira and Lysia are chatting with the passengers in the commons area.

Shawn double checked everything and hit the jump button.

"Bang!" We are in jump."

Everything looks good. The entry point for Mark and the
exit point from Sequi are lined up exactly in the
astrogation tank. Fuel pressure looks just right and the
grid lights are on. Shawn presses the button...

...there is a slight shudder, whether from the fuel rushing
through the pipes and out into the void forming the corridor
through jump space and the bubble around the ship or from
the effect of the ship transitioning into jump space no one
really knows, as the ship enters jump space. Everyone's
stomach flip-flops, and the screens go blank.

Ricardo and Shawn shake off the effects of jump after only a
moment. Arvitis sits with his eyes closed breathing
shallowly. He looks slightly pale.

Kelly grips his console as the jump effects whiplash through him. It
always seemed to be worse here, near the jump drive core. He takes a
breath and waits for his stomach to settle. That done, he keys his comm
on the engineering circuit. "Report."

Anspor, who is across the room looks over at Kelly and says, "Jump Grid appears solid, Chief, and the bubble is forming up just like you told me it would, matching the model on the screen almost exactly."

Kelly who is monitering the flow of hydroden being injected into jump space sees that the flow line fits right over the modeled flow line that Shawn had called for, it looks like a perfect insertion from this end.

Kelly nods. "Outstanding. We'll watch it for another thirty minutes,
then secure from jump stations."

Ricardo pokes his arm. "Hmm, still seem to be here!" He locks his
station. "Well, that's all for now!" He comms Engineering "Good jump guys. "

"Arvitis...you need some wobbly pills from Mira, or you gonna be ok?"
(Does this seem to be more thannhis usual reaction to jump? I know he
get Jump Sickness)

OOC> Barring an emergency with Arvitis...

He puts the jump countdown on the big screen in the bridge. The seconds
start counting down the nominal 176 hours of jump.

"175 hours, 59 minutes and 25 seconds...the jump pool is now open. I
feel lucky...I think we're gonna be a little early, that felt good. 172
hours, and..." he looks at the ceiling, as if calculating in his head
"...no more than 10 hours out of Mark."

He calls up the standard pool form in a corner of the big screen, posts
his name, his wager, and his 10 cr. "Join the fun folks!"

He gets up, stretches. "Well, I'm going to go do the obligatory mingle
with the paying customers, then repair for a beersi and some eats in the
crew lounge. I think Woof dug up an old Rolph Simones holo, 'Guns of
Huran-Ji' I think. That's a good one!"

He sets his battered cap back on his head and heads off the bridge to
the passenger lounge....

Shawn will put his 10cr right on 176 and join Ricardo on less than 10
hours out on breakout.

"I'll just sit here a while." Arvitis says as he finally opens
his eyes, "One seventy eight, 27 minutes."

Calling over his shoulder, "How much *money* is the ante this
time, and are you actually gonna keep track of it this jump? You
remember Mira said she won the pool last jump and almost scalped
you when you told her you hadn't recorded everyone's bets."

OOC: And what is Shawn wearing? The green and gold uniform that
Mira picked out, because it goes with her hair , or you're own

OOC: And have Mira climb him like a squirl? He is in the fancy uniform
she worked up. Let the Captain take his won chances.

Ricardo calls back. "That's why the form's in the system...go to the
crew main directory, and edit that page...you can only edit your entry.
10 credit's the ante, to start. It's a adjustable pool. You feel more
confident later in jump, you can raise us and we either see you or fold."

"Okay." Arvitis says, then adds, "Just remember to tell Mira."

Ricardo and Shawn walk down the starboard corridor toward the
lift. They see Cory sitting at the table in the galley. He looks
like he is doing some sort of calculations at the terminal there.

They can stop and converse or continue around the corner to the
lift and take it down to passenger country.

Ricardo hears Shawn and sees him stop to talk to Cory....

After Shawn stops and looks closely at what Cory is doing,
he recognizes the copy they had made of the tape the group
had found in the deadspace behind the jumpdrive in
Engineering. Cory has it out and is doing something with it
nad his calculations. Shawn can't tell what from just
looking, though.
