Cari stops in front of an unpretentious doorway with the small lighted 
sign "Shalimma" above the door.

Kelly opens the door and after Cari steps inside he follows her. They 
find themselves in a softly lighted foyer. A young woman stands behind a 
podium smiling.

"Welcome to Shalimma." she asks, "Table for two?"

A waiter comes forward and escorts you to a small round table with two 
chairs. There is a white tablecloth and a lighted candle on the table.

The waiter asks as he hands Kelly and April menus, "What can we offer 
you to drink tonight?"

April looks surprised and smiles. "You don't need to apologize. You didn't 
offend me at all.  You're probably thinking that I sound *alot* like the Navy 
shrinks.  Well that's because before I went into the music business I was in 
University majoring in psychology.  I gave it up to become a 'starving artist'. 
Anyway I should be apologizing to you for making you feel uncomfortable. :)  

Why don't we peruse the menu's and order some dinner?" She smiles at him. She's 
clearly not upset at all but concerned for his feelings.

She gages him carefully to make sure he didn't take offense to her somewhat dry

His eyes light up with suprised delight as he laughs. "That's very 
true." His eyes lock with hers, then he looks at his menu again. There 
seems to be some additional color in his face, but the light isn't good 
enough to tell for certain. "I think I'll try something fairly light, 
'a feast for the palette'." he quotes from the menu with a smile.

He decides on a seafood dish. (I'm not even going to try to make up a 
name here ;-)). "I'm not really sure." He shrugs. "It's only been a 
month, so I'm still trying to acclimate myself." He waves a hand. 
"Don't get me wrong, Ricardo is a good captain; he and the others have 
treated me very well."

Kelly smiles. "I will put in my request for a new assistant engineer 
immediately, in that case." He sips his coffee and goes on in a serious 
tone. "Of course, you can study whatever you'd like. As you say, there 
is time enough to study. I'm sure that the others will have opinions on 
what subjects you should study."

"Actually you may already have a possible candidate for that position.  On our 
trip to the asteroid, Ilane single-handedly brought the powerplant and life 
support back online. She did this from a cold restart and with all of the 
presets wiped out of the computers memory.  She's really talented and a hard-
worker from what I observed." She pauses once again. "To be honest, most of my 
skills are people-oriented. So I suppose an assistant steward position is 
probably the best fit right now.  I hope that you'll still give me the grand 
tour of engineering though. :)"  She looks at him and smiles.

She smiles admiring his dedication to the project. She responds, Perhaps having 
two more pairs of hands will help the situation. I hope so. Let me rephrase

The waiter arrives back at your table carrying your food on a large 
tray. After serving, first April and then Kelly, the waiter says, "Enjoy 
your dinners, and if you need anything all you have to do is ask."

Then with a bow he retreats from the table. You notice that he, and the 
other wait staff continue to circulate around the room providing what 
looks like excellent service.

April's brow creases in concern and she puts her fork down for moment. She 
waits until he meets her gaze and she says, "Well, now you have a little time 
to relax a bit..."

then he takes another bite. "This is very good." After a minute, he 
continues. "It took me a while to realize it, but ending my life was 
the easy way out. Don't get me wrong - I still hate the little worm's 
guts, but I'm not willing to give up my own life - not by a long shot."

She thinks a moment, "I've always believed that suicide is only for those who 
never learned to accept the consequences of their actions.  They spend their 
unhappy lives dodging responsibility...until one day they choose a path that 
will either make or break them."  She pauses and then asks,"Do you regret 
shooting the Captain?"

Kelly nearly chokes on his drink. He sets it down and mops his lips 
with a napkin. "No, I didn't shoot him." He laughs softly. "I didn't 
come to that course of action until *after* he was safely distant from 
me."
