997.272.0600: Early Morning at Mama Kent's

Ilane hears what sounds like a thump, and her eyes snap open. There is 
some kind of disturbance outside in the corridor...voices, angry 
sounding voices. Ilane turns over looking toward the door.

The sounds of a commotion filter into April's brain...nothing for  her 
to concern herself with she thinks still mostly asleep, but then she 
hears Ilane moving around in the next bed and yawning opens her eyes and 
glances in her direction.

Across the hall, Shawn is startled awake by the sound of a loud thump 
against the wall of his room. He hears two voices, two men, speaking 
loudly to each other, but through the wall he can't make out what they 
are saying...just angry words, and more thumps.

Shawn rose and put on his robe and went to the door. He cracked it open to
look and see who it was and listen at what all the ruckas was without
letting them know he was, just in case.

Shawn sees two men dressed in ship suits. Both are wearing the same 
uniform, so they are probably from the same ship. Both appear 
inebriated, one more so than the other. The less drunk of the two is 
half carrying the other down the hall and trying to get a pass key from 
him. The more drunk of the two doesn't want to go, he wants to "party!" 
and is loudly proclaiming that he "wants another drink!" He's also 
putting up an ineffective attempt to get loose from this companion that 
consists mostly of making wild swings and kicks that miss and hit the walls.

Shawn doesn't recognize either of the men, but the situation is not 
unfamiliar to him.

Hearing the exchange, Ilane just assumes that they're a couple of relatively 
harmless drunks.  Even so, she double-checks to make sure that her door is 
locked before beginning her morning workout.

Once that's done, she goes though the fresher, gets dressed in some casual, 
comfortable clothes, and then heads downstairs for breakfast.

He shook his head and grinned. Then he closed the door and relocked it.

A shower and then he dressed. He had some work to do this morning.

Using his knowledge he began an in depth search of the rooms, looking for
anything that Akus might have left behind. Things like rods in closets were
checked to see if they were hollow. He took his time and waited for the
girls to rise.

This *is* Akus we're talking about. If it was easy, it would have been

"Oooh. That reminds me."

He commed Arvitis.

"Arvitis, I'm doing something that I could really use your help on. Can you
bring your denso to Ma Kent's? Room 24."

Ilane goes downstairs, missing Shawn's call to Arivitis.

Downstairs she goes to the dining room and finds it more than 
half full, even at this early hour. More people here than could 
possibly be staying here at the boarding house.

Mama Kent, herself, is greeting people at the entrance to the 
dining hall. She takes Ilane's orders and one of her assistants 
quickly returns with a serving cart with covered dishes and 
carafes of both juice and coffee.

"We are a bit short on staff this morning." she tells you, "If 
you wouldn't mind rolling the cart up to your rooms yourself, I 
would appreciate it."

The smells coming from the dishes on the cart remind Shawn that 
he hasn't eaten since last night, and his stomach growls its 
displeasure for his neglect.

attached to the end of a cable and after making several adjustments, 
carries the device toward the wall and starts to scan.

He murmurs, "This might take a while..."

"Well, I woke with a little stiffness in my lower back, but I'm fine 
now." Arvitis says seriously.

Then he proceeds with his densoing of the room. He moves very 
deliberately covering each square centimeter with slow careful 
movements, pausing here and there to go back over a spot or to adjust 
his device. As he moves the wand he moves his fingers over the surface 
almost like it is his fingers doing the searching rather than the waves 
from the densitometer. He looks like he is concentrating deeply.

his comm goes off.

"Who'd be calling me at this time of the morning? he mutters as he takes 
it out, "Dr. Steves here, may I ask who is calling?"

"Shawn?" Arvitis sounds a bit muddled..of course he often does...he

"I suppose I could." he continues in a musing tone then he asks, "When 
do you want me to bring the denso over there?"
