997.272.1700: Expected Arrivals

Inside the Mae Lee, Woof is finishing up his food preparations, Ricardo
and Zeek have cleaned up and are dressing for the evening.

On the ramp, Mira and Jac were chatting while below them on the tarmac,
Sir Authur was just arriving.

> She winks at Jac and puts a finger over her lips as she slips past
> him into the ship. For some reason she doesn't want to break the
> spell with a stranger just now.

Jac chuckles and follows her into the ship. He calls out as the pair
walk down the corridor, "Company is coming. Who's on duty?"

Woof hears Jac call out and glances at his watch, Leesa should be
arriving just about now..

Ricardo hears Jac's call in the corridor just as he finishes dressing.
It is also just about time for Sir Gunt to arrive.

Arm in arm, Mira and Jac walk down the corridor. When they come to the
cross corridor they can see Woof in the galley.

"I say!" Jac calls out again, "Yoo Woo, Woofie, old bean! I'm not
expecting company, *I'm* not on duty, and I already have a pretty girl
on *my* arm, so *I'm* not going to answer the bell when it rings."

He looks over at Mira and gives her a smiling wink before letting her
arm go so she can continue to her cabin, and he can double back to his,
"I'll hold you to 45 minutes."

Before he heads back up the corridor he calls out again, "I say! That
does smell yummy. What *are* you cooking up int there Mr. Shultz?"

Both men turn as they hear the hatch buzzer go off.

"I'm not here." says Jac smiling and then adds as he hurries off to his
cabin, "The Sianna Hasta-Rur and I are away enjoying our day off."

Ricardo also hears the hatch buzzer go off...as does anyone else still
aboard (Mira, Zeek, and Cory).

Ricardo seteps out in time to see this. "Wel, Jac. I see you're taking
your supervisory role seriously. Looks like you're supervising Mira
quite, ahh, closely...You know, if she acts up there's always the
various disciplinary measures you're allowed to employ" He sticks his

Mira gives Ricardo a devilish smile, "Now why would he do that? I might
enjoy them."

She winks and disappears towards her cabin.

"Captain we are having a wonderful time." Jac says smiling, "At least,
*I* am. You know Mira even made my tea with Auntie Mazie pleasant, and
that's a task I thought impossible to accomplish."

After Mira leaves he says confidentially, "Both moons will be full over
the bay tonight and I plan to take Mira flying this evening. She's not
afraid of heights or anything like that is she?"

Ricardo heads to the ramp as Sir Gunt comes up the ramp. "Welcome

OOC: For plot purposes we'll say that Ricardo hears the buzzer while
chatting with Jac and Woof then goes and opens the hatch saying....

> "Welcome aboard, Sir Gunt."

"Captain O'Brien, it's good..." he stops and turns to look back toward
the city as the sound of a muffled explosion reaches you both. Ricardo
sees smoke starting to rise from near the top of a tall building about a
kilometer away.

"...what was that?" Sir Gunt, grunts then points, "Look! There! A fire
in that high rise?"

With the hatch open, even inside the ship, Woof hears the sound of a
muffled explosion. It sounds sort of like thunder in the distance across
the plains of Sequi, but something about it makes the pit of his stomach
grow cold.

TAP: Node, remember Kelly went camping. He's a hundred kilometers away
walking through the woods toward a lake as it happens. I doubt his
tranquil evening will be disturbed...depending on what the other
characters do over the next few hours, of course. Same for Lysia's
party's evening plans...unless someone calls them in, they won't know
about what is happening in Mark City. Actually, same goes for Mira and
Jac's plans unless they get called back by later.

Ricardo shakes his head. "An explosion, a large one if we heard it from
that distance...Do you know what building that is?"

He turns back to Gunt. "Sir, why don't we step into the lounge. We can
catch the news there, find out what's happened." Assuming Sir Gunt
agrees, he closes the door and then leads the way to the lounge, and
puts up the local MNN news feeds.

Ricardo says, mostly to himself, "This feels bad..."

"No, not really. I'm not a local here." Gunt says squinting and
shielding his eyes with the briefcase he is carrying , "Doesn't look
that bad from here. See, the smoke is already thinning out."

"Fine with me Captain." Sir Gunt says, "I'd like to see to putting this..."

He pats the side of his briefcase with one hand, "...into your ship's
safe, if you don't mind."

> Ricardo says, mostly to himself, "This feels bad..."

"What?" Gunt says as he follows Ricardo, "The explosion? Why? Do you
think it is connected to you in some way?"

The local MNN news feed is running dead air when Ricardo tunes into that
channel, but after a few seconds it comes on with a talking head saying,
"We apologize for the short interruption in service. There was a power
outage, and a report of a minor explosion on the 43rd floor of the main
MNN building. The main headquarters building is being evacuated and our
feed has been changed to our Aluusia studios. We have no further
information at this time, but we will bring you further reports as more
information becomes available."

"See, not a major disaster." Sir Milo says as he sets his briefcase on
the desk, "Now, could we see to our business?"

The galley terminal comes back to life with the same feed as the one
Ricardo just saw. (See above)

The phone call from Leesa comes shortly after you see the announcement
on the galley terminal.

Kelly is preparing his supper beside a pristine lake in the middle of
the wilderness when his comm unit starts to buzz in his pocket.

> Kelly jumps a bit as his comm alert sounds. "This is Kelly. What's

Woof hears Kelly's response, but it there is roughly a 2 second delay as
the signal is relayed from a low orbiting satellite to a relay station
in geosyncronious orbit, back to a receiver at the Mark City Comm
Center, and then relayed to the Mae Lee's comm system and then to Woof's
personal unit.

As Kelly is replying to Woof's call the report about the explosion in
the MNN building is playing on the terminal. The call from Lessa is
still a few minutes in the future.

but the above works.

Kelly looks out over the pristine water of the lake where he is setting

OOC: Your Captain gave you all a 3 day pass, and Kelly didn't waste a
minute of it hanging around the ship. He did a quick research on the
computer, found there was a large wilderness area, an Imperial Park,
west of the city and headed out. He has been hiking along a forest trail
all day and is just now starting to lay out his camp for the night next
to a lake in the middle of the wilderness several hundred kilometers
away from the ship. He probably plans a little fishing, a little
swimming, and a lot of quiet relaxing.

OOG: From JR's earlier post, he's forgotten that he had Kelly do this
himself, but he did, and he has, so that's where you are.

So, unless he had the ship comms set to forward his engineering calls to

OOG: I asked JR if his comm was forwarding and he said yes, so he gets
the call. Ricardo is busy with Sir Gunt, and doesn't answer
immediately. JR and Greg, take it away.

Ricardo shakes his head. "Nope...career scout's reaction. We have a
decidedly feline curiosity. I also tend to be a little hyper aware of
things blowing up around me. A little too much time on the front, I
guess."

Ricardo nods. "Certainly. Come into the office, I'll draw you up a
reciept and we can put the materials into the safe." He continues down
the hall to the office.

If Sir Gunt wishes to put the entire briefcase into the safe, Ricardo
will put a tape seal across the briefcase and ask Sir Gunt to sign it
the seal., ' for reassurances to all concerned..'

He also makes a mental note for Arvitis to denso it prior to takeoff.

Gunt signs the seal and watches as Ricardo puts the briefcase into the
safe. Once that is done he takes out an envelope and hands it ot Ricardo.

"Instructions for what to with the briefcase upon arrival on Montrose."
Gunt says, "Name and picture of my colleague on Montrose, as well as the

Ricardo shakes his head. "The least I can do for our customers is be
polite.."
He shows Gunt to the door, saying to Woof.."In a moment." as he passes.

With Gunt off the ship, he turns back to Woof. "What's the problem?"

"That bombing or whatever... Lessa called and said that 'they', whoever
they are killed a couple of people, and that whatever I heard, she didn't

Ricardo opens the envelope and confirms that everything is there.
"Looks perfectly in order, Sir Gunt." He places the envelope in the
safe as well.

Ricardo nods. He pulls up the receipt form on the term in the office,
fills in the details, and cryptosigns it, " Would you like a paper copy
or on disk? I can mail it to your office, as well..." Based on Gun'ts
reply, Ricardo prints it out, burns it to disk or sends it.

He also puts a copy in the ship's log permanent record.

"Promptness is a virtue," she quotes, "But its a woman thing to keep a man
waiting." She flashes a devilish smile over her shoulder.

She does, however, reappear 45 minutes later, freshly showered, styled, in
black jeans, black walking shoes and a short sleeved, black cashmere
sweater with a matching long sleeved sweater in case it got chilly later
tied around her neck. Her grandmother's pearls gleam with their soft allure
around her neck and her earlobes. Her long curls are held back with a wide
black headband, but are otherwise loose and falling around her shoulders.

Woof comes out of his cabin and sees Jac standing in the corridor. Jac
is dressed in blue jeans with a light weight camel colored jacket over a
white polo shirt with a pair diagonal strips running from his left
shoulder toward his right waist.

"Hello Woof. What are you still doing...." Jac says smiling, then stops
seeing the serious expression on Woof's face and asks seriously, "What's
wrong?"

"There was a bomb or another explosion or something. At Lessa's

co-workers... I don't know who they are, but she said she had nothing to

Mira frowns, "I think even if you didn't say who you were, if they
investigate the call further, they can already trace it to you, possibly
match it the call you received from her, and you've already stuck your nose
in it, willingly or unwillingly."

"Jac, perhaps you should quietly inform Aunt Mazie about the call Woof
received. It might not hurt to have someone at her level know there might
be more going on than meets the eye. I'm sure the police will figure it
out, but it can't hurt to be safe."
