"Good!" Jac says smiling as he opens the door to a taxi, "It will make it easier." As he follows Mira into the cab he says, "We're going flying." Leaning forward he says, "Cabbie, Nyugen Airfield, please." Sitting back, Jac says, "We can grab a small meal at the Airfield's cafeteria if you'd like, or wait until after we have our little adventure." Eris AKU

As the cab approaches, Mira sees that there are huge hangers here and in addition there are several huge cigar shapes hanging in the air silhouetted by the rising moon. Jac leans forward and says pointing, "Drive past the hangers to....there." He leans back and says, "Something smaller than an airship for us tonight." To Mira it looks like a cluster of domes. When the cab stops, Jac steps out and helps Mira to alight. When she looks around she sees that there is a rather small building here, but there are also several large balloons rising above what look like wicker baskets. Eris AKU

I can't wait." As she watches one of the balloons is released and begins to rise. She can see there are three people in the wicker basket. The fabric of the balloon itself is lighted by an inner glow...probably some sort of heat source inside to make the hot air that lifts it. > She works to keep her stance serene, but inside she's bouncing, > "Balloons?" Jac laughs and heads toward the small building where he meets and shakes hands with a man. "Yes, I called earlier...Woodbridge." he says, "Balloon ride and a pair of flight suits. "One for myself and one for my friend." he indicates Mira. "Yes, Si, I've got everything ready for you. Have you flown before?" he asks. "I have and my friend has trained with grav belts, so she should pick it up quickly." Jac replies. "You'll still have to sign the release forms." he says producing a clipboard and indicating where Jac and Mira have to sign. Jac signs and says to Mira with a grin, "This releases them from liability." After signing the pair are lead over to a balloon where they are joined by a woman. "Hi, I'm Wendi. I'll be your pilot tonight. I'll be taking the balloon out over the bay and up to 1,000 meters where you can start your flights." she tells you. You see that she is wearing a harness with what look like gossamer wings hanging from each shoulder. Around her waist what looks like a grav belt, and there is what appears to be a small pack on her back. "Your flight suits are in the basket. Do either of you need help putting the flight suits on," she asks as she opens a door in the basket's side, "Instruction on how to use them?" Eris AKU GM

Jac says, "I'm Jac and this lovely sianna is Mira. I'll let you show Mira how to put on the Wings while I suit up." Wendi smiles and turns to Mira holding up a harness, "Turn around and step through the straps. The parachute is on your back, and the grav belt goes around your waist and we'll adjust the wings onto your shoulders." Wendy shows you how to pull the cinches up so the harness fits snugly and position the backpack and wings properly. "The grav belt can support your weight and more, so you shouldn't ever *need* the chute, but regulations are regulations." Wendi says, "The idea is to use the belt to adjust your weight to only a kilo or two and use the wings to glide and fly. See there are controls at the waist *and* at on the handholds for the wings. You'll want to use the ones on the wings to adjust your weight as you fly. As a beginner you might want to give yourself completely neutral buoyancy and just float until you get use to it." "Any questions?" she asks. Eris AKU GM

"Yes, it's quiet up there without any sort of engines running, and there are also short range radios built into the harnesses." Wendi tells you, "Once you flip them on, they are voice activated. The speakers are right below your ears on the harness." "Oh, and last thing. If your grav belt fails...and *never* happens*...you can deploy the parachute by pulling on this ring right here on the harness. I also have the ability to pop your chute by remote control from the balloon, but that's *never* happened." "Except for that one time..." Jac says with a laugh in his voice. As the balloon takes off Jac looks Mira over critically, "Wendi is the expert, but I'm still going to double check." The moon is just rising over the bay, it is casting a silver light across the waters. Above them they can see other balloons drifting out over the bay, and when Jac points, Mira sees first one, then another, figure dive from one of the balloons and glide away, slowly flapping their wings. He clears his throat and adds, "It will be even more beautiful when you are gliding out over the bay." There is a light wind blowing from the land toward the bay. The balloon rises gracefully into the sky drifting out over the water. Wendi looks over at Jac and Mira and says, "Okay, here we are. Let's make sure your belts are working and then you can have your fun." Jac reaches down to his belt and turns the knob on the controls. Mira finds that she can spread the wings wide and ride thermals far up above the hot air balloons. From the lofty heights, the lights of the city along the bay look like twinkling candles. "Look to your left." Jac calls out, and when she does, Mira sees a large starship descending toward the starport. It is floating down slowly, but compared to how she feels right now, it looks ungainly and out of place in the air. Eris AKU GM

Jac joins you a few moments later and you start to float back toward the airship field. It turns out there is a small grav drive in the gondola that provides backup lift and maneuver to the balloon. Jac helps Mira off with the wings and then starts to remove his own. Mira can already feel where her muscles will be sore tomorrow. If she hadn't been working out on the handball court it would be a lot worse, though. Eris AKU GM

You never quite appreciate all the muscles you have and don't use every day until you over use them one day." She smiles at Jac, "We really need that hot tub on the Mae Lee." Mira

Mira giggles, "No, its more like a big bath tub, deep with bench seating all around, that has hot water and bubble jets in the side. They massage you while you sit and socialize with the other people with you. Some sit a number of people, others fewer. In private settings, swimsuits are usually optional with a strong leaning towards none. With a nice bottle of bubbly and the right company it can be very relaxing and romantic." "They don't have them on Mark?" Mira

Jac looks slightly shocked and his expression mirrors the distaste in his voice, "You mean a *group* sit around in hot water and sort of...of stew together? Sharing all their germs and microbes...that sounds...er...pardon me, but it sounds unhealthy to me." "And no, I've never heard of such." Jac clears his throat, "I mean we have steam baths, but that's not like sitting in a tub of water with a group of people..." Eris AKU GM

The water is generally treated the same way. There are also whirlpool bathtubs, but those are generally single user tubs, though some hotels offer a two person model for lovers." "I'll have to introduce you to one sometime. Obviously not here, though." Mira

When he turns back he seems to be in full control again. "Yes, I'll look forward to it." The balloon nears the ground and is secured and wenched down, so the pair can step out onto the ground again. It feels especially solid beneath your feet. "Ready for dinner, now?" Jac asks glancing at his wrist cron. Eris AKU GM
