"Well, I *did* have something in mind." he smiles, "Shall we?" Jac escorts Mira away from the building an toward a waiting cab. After handing her inside the cab, Jac joins her and says to the cabbie, "Do you know Cervanteze Street in the Old City...Cervanteze and Paris?" "Sure thing, Gov!" the cabbie nods and turns back and the cab pulls out, pushing the couple back into their seats. Jac says with a smile, "We're heading back to a spot about 3 blocks from where we started this morning." Eris AKU GM

Jac laughs, "I drop by Carlissimo's every once in a while when I'm on Mark. You'll see why when we get there." The ride takes about 20 minutes as you have to circle back around the Starport and then cross the greenbelt back into the city. The cab takes you into the old part of the city again. It slows to a crawl as it moves through narrow streets crowded with pedestrians. The people on the streets are mostly young, college aged students, many wearing black ankle length gowns. Others are dressed in casual clothing, like jeans and shirts, and carrying these gowns folded over their arms. "There are several colleges right around here." Jac says, "It looks like the evening classes are just letting out." Eris AKU GM

Mira asks with a grin, > "Looks like they are planning a night of it." Jac laughs, "Yes. Yes to both comments. I suspect we'll run into a few of them where we're going, too." The cab stops at a corner and let's Jac and Mira out. Jac leans in and pays the cabbie. While he is leaning in, Mira looks around and sees they are still among the college age pedestrians. The storefronts along this street are mostly two and three stories, and those that aren't rooms for rent appear to be a mixture of small bookstores, consignment shops, cafes and taverns. Most of the stores are still open. "This way." Jac says taking Mira's arm. Jac leads her down the street to a opening between a used bookstore and another store. A narrow flight of stairs wooden rises up from the pavement. Jac starts up the stairs. There is no sign or other indication as to what is up the stairs. A group of four young people start up the stairs behind Mira and Jac. At the top of the stairs there is a small landing inset to the left. Off the landing there is a door with the number 2 on it and another wooden stair leading up to the third floor. Jac continues on up the stairs. On the third floor there is an unmarked door which Jac opens, and holds open for Mira. Looking inside, Mira sees a large room cris crossed with wooden beams. This is clearly the attic of this building. However, the attic has been turned into a restaurant...no more of a dining hall. There are several rows of long wooden tables with wooden benches on either side. People, young and old are seated at the tables eating and talking. She can see that some servers are bringing out large platters of food and setting them on the tables while others are removing empty platters and taking them back to what must be the kitchens on the far side of the room. Also at the far end of the room there is a low wooden platform where a live band is playing. No, looking and listening again, Mira finds that is is a string quartet playing something classical. Jac follows Mira in and says, "We pay for our meals before we eat." He points to the right, "The coatroom and restrooms are there if you need to freshen up. I'll pay for our meals here." Eris AKU GM

"Thank you, I think I'll take advantage of that," She says, taking advantage of the offered escape. Of course, it occurs to her its also a smooth way to avoid her arguing that she should pay or something. She disappears into the restroom, judging the temperature of the restaurant. Was it warm enough to shed her sweater and drape it over her shoulders or even leave it in the coat room? She washes her face, with cool refreshing water and tends her makeup with carefully stowed compacts in her medical bag. She loosens the fastener in her hair and runs a brush through her curls, then rubs some controlling gel into her palms and applies it with practiced hands, defining and controlling the curl without sacrificing the soft loose style. She freshens her lipstick last, leaving her lips a soft glistening rose pink. She steps out and scans for sign of Jac. Mira

The coatroom is just a room with pegs on the walls. There are gowns, coats, even backpacks and bookbags hanging from the pegs. There doesn't appear to be any sort of security for the room. The men's and women's restrooms are on the other side of the corridor from the coatroom. There are several young women in the restroom chatting when Mira comes in. They glance her way and go back to their conversations. From the snatches Mira picks up as she stands in front of a mirror fixing her hair the others are students talking about the things that students talk about...classes, men, music, men. Stepping back into the corridor, Mira sees that Jac is waiting for her near the entrance. She sees a counter behind him, presumably where he paid for their dinners. "I didn't mean you *needed* to do anything Mira." Jac says as she approaches, "You looked great before...ur, not that you don't look great now." He waves at someone on the other side of the room and pauses on the way to shake the hand of a gray haired man. "Ur...ah! They have a good view of the platform where the string quartet is just packing up their instruments and leaving the stage. A young woman with a guitar is waiting just off the stage for her turn. On the table Mira sees that the food is spread out "family style" where each diner can help themselves from the platters. There are several kinds of meat and vegetables on the platters. Baskets of rolls with tubs of butter are laid out between the platters of food. Large pitchers of beverage are on the tables as well. Jac leans over to Mira and says, "The white pitchers are filled with beer and the green ones are filled with tea. The clear ones are ice water." Eris AKU GM

As Mira and Jac talk, the folk singer finishes her song to a smattering of applause from a group of young women sitting at one of the tables...probably her friends...and is replaced by a pair of men. The two young men begin to speak, it is some sort of chant, or epic poem, with the men alternating in their speech. It appears they are telling a folk tale about a brave warrior who faces a giant sea serpent that is threatening his village. Mira can't understand all of the words, and some of the stanzas seem to rhyme and some don't...like the words just aren't the *right* words to go with that tale. Eris AKU GM

She tilts her head, frowning slightly. She looks at Jac to see his expression before turning her attention back to the food. She wonders if it is a translation from another language, one that translated poorly. Mira

Jac shakes his head, "I'm not sure what this is." The young woman across the table leans in and whispers, "It's a vargr poem from Sequi. Onc is speaking the words and the other is translating the scents and body language into words..." she stops and listens. Jac raises his eyebrows and says to Mira, "That makes sense, I guess, but I've never heard anyone try to do this before." "Are they any good?" Jac asks the others sounding like he doesn't think so. The girl whispers to her companion, "They aren't very good are they?" He shakes his head and grins, "Nope, six to four they'll be rolled off the stage." Eris AKU GM

Mira grabs a second roll before she loses her chance and starts slathering butter on it. All the better to watch the fun with. She gives Jac a guilty smile, realizing she'd enjoy this if they were. Glancing at the two men on the stage she see that they notice it too. One of the men's voice breaks, and when it does the crowd pounces. A hail of rolls flies toward the stage with shouts of laughter. Jac grins and grabs a roll tossing it in an arc toward the stage as do most of the people seated around Mira. The two men fend off the rolls laughing. One of them bats at the rolls with his guitar as the pair run off the stage and back around the corner to general cheers and shouts of laughter. After the performers leave, three people come out and sweep the rolls up shoveling them into large wicker baskets. Only after the rolls have been removed does the next act come forward. It is a pair of young men, college aged, carrying what look like bowling pins. The begin to juggle them. Jac still chuckling leans over and says, "Oh, my! These two are just asking for it!" However, the pair of jugglers are actually very good and soon there is a smattering of applause from the eaters. Someone near the stage says something to one of the jugglers who nods and deftly catches first one, then two and three, rolls tossed to him and includes the rolls in the juggling. This draws even more applause. Now the applause is rhythmic and in time with the jugglers and the music, now coming from somewhere. By the time the pair finish their act the crowd is clapping and stomping their feet in time and end with a rousing cheer. After this act finishes, the stage stays empty for a while, as the crowd slowly quiets down. Many of the eaters finish and leave and are replaced by new arrivals. To Mira, it's almost as if a "ringer" act was included in the rotation to finish up a "shift"...but no one here seems to notice that. Eris AKU GM

She pushes her plate away. She's had enough unless something sweet wanders its way in front of her. Mira

Jac laughs, "More of the same." he glances at his watch and adds, "There will be more amateur acts until midnight and then they'll sweep the stragglers out of the place." "I hate to say it Mira, but I about run out of activities for today." Jac says then thinks for a second. "How would you feel about a quiet stroll in the old city. We can pick up a spolato and a cup of coffee from a sidewalk vendor, walk through Wilson park and, if you are up to it, maybe stop in a the Cathedral of the Holy Redeemer to listen to the pipe organ there." "What do you think?" he asks. Eris AKU GM

"That sounds very pleasant," Mira replies softly, "I'm enjoying this glimpse of things you enjoy." She gets an impish smile again, washing away the more serious expression of the moment before, "Especially since I've enjoyed every one of them." Mira
