997.272.2200: A Night At the Opera!

The elegantly dressed ladies and the dapper Shawn make their way to the
crowded hotel lobby and then out to the brightly lighted street where
cabs are lined up letting off and picking up riders.

Lysia *could* take her car, but there won't be a good place to park near
the theater so it is better to take a cab there and back.

OOC: Room for four in the back if you crowd, or three in the back and
one beside the driver...

Seeing the situation, Ilane says, "I could sit up front if that would help..."

Cab, three in the back, the dapper Shawn in the front. "Wear your
sunglass's Shawn, you'll look like a secret agent."

"You bet."

Shawn slid in front and pulled a pair of sunglasses out of his jacket and put them on with a grin.

The cab ride is short and takes you down the brightly lighted strip and
around a corner to an equally garishly lighted street. There are a
series of theaters, nightclubs, and eateries along this street. Many of
the theater and club fronts are topped by large neon signs proclaiming
their name and the shows or acts currently playing there. The cab stops
and you are let out in front of a theater. A peacock crowd of people are
gathered outside and are just starting to to in through the glass doors.
Another line is queued up at a ticket window, either trying to buy, or
to pick up previously ordered tickets.

Shawn slid out and held the door open for the ladies with a flourish and a bow. Once they were out,
he handed the cabbie the fare and a good tip with a smile and proceeded to get tickets for the four
of them.

Clearly appriciating Mr. Smith's noble gallantry, Ilane gracefully steps out of
the cab with a smile and patiently waits with the rest of her cousins.

After a couple of minutes though, the tall brunette politely excuses herself
and walks over to Shawn. She smiles and asks, "Would you like a little

Ilane spots him looking at her ankles and smiles. "Actually, I danced quite a
*lot* of tri-axis ballet when I was with the LDC." She pauses and then
realizes that the acronym probably doesn't mean anything to Shawn. "The Lukash
Dance Company. It's a zero-G dance troupe."

[PTP: If Shawn is any sort of fan of dance, he would have probably heard of
it. While the LDC is a relatively small troupe, they have a reputation for
hiring very talented dancers. They do tri-axis ballet, interpretive dance and
traditional Cathayan dance.]

Ilane stiffens a little. She didn't expect him to be so forward, although she

He stepped back a bit as well, regretting his impetuous action. She was obviously not that
comfortable with someone who was, after all, a stranger. The last thing he had wanted to do was
offend her and earn a rebuff.

When he spoke, he stepped back into reserved politeness.

"I was born in space, actually. My parents were free traders. We went all over the place."

She reponds to his stepping back by stepping back up a little. While he'd
caught her off guard a few moments ago, she didn't want to give the impression
that she wasn't interested.

Ilane nods. "That actually sounds like a pretty fun way to grow up! One thing
that I had always enjoyed both in the LDC and in the Navy was all the
travelling." She pauses. "So, what did you do for a living before you joined

"Not really. Just a careful profession. Mistakes could be a lot of trouble. Neither my parents not I
made any and so when they retired I went off on my own to be a respectable merchant. It does give
one an interesting point of view, on occasion. Pirates are more like Pickaxe."

She glances at her terminal and slides the tickets through the slot,
"Four tickets...enjoy the show."

Once inside you go up stairs to your right and find your seats. They
aren't bad really seats, but they are about as far up and away from the
stage as you can get. You just hope the acoustics in the theater are good.

Ilane doesn't seem to mind that they're in the "aren't really bad" section.
She takes her seat happily and relaxes. She says to April, "You know, a lot
Michael a'Day material might have been kinda campy, but it's *great* stuff from
a performance standpoint."

April nods, "Yes, most of it is." She's taking their surroundings and people
in their view.

Shawn seated himself next to her casually but maintaining a discreet separation to prevent the
impression of seeking contact between them. He will keep his hand in his own lap and let her have
control of the shared hand rest. He is still cheerful but more careful and wary of appearances.

"The sound might still be good, even up here in the nosebleed section. I see they are going with a
live orchestra. Great. That will make what looks to be a packed hall reverberate."

Ilane smiles. "Well, it certainly is a welcome change from all that pre-
recorded garbage..."

Shawn became solemn.

"I assure you that I *always* let the Lady chose to shmeck or not."

Ilane chuckles and adds in a mock-lofty tone, "I'll have you know that we are
*not* shmecking at this time, Lysia..." She laughs. :)

Lysia smiles, "There's no such thing as a bad seat in here Shawn, it's just
that some seats provide better opportunities to view and be viewed. That's
what you pay for now a days, the opportunity to be seen."

She looks at her carefully trimmed and painted nails, "You know, I kissed my
first boy in this theatre. Of course to my mother's chagrin I kissed my
first girl in this theatre too." She grins wickedly.
