Ricardo walks up to the group. "Hey everyone. Sorry, the leave got
trimmed a little, but we have a situation." He'll come grab some of the
luggage. "Stow this quickly and meet in the crew lounge. ASAP."
He'll help get the luggage and such stowed.
He goes to the crew lounge. "Lessa was the reporter who
interviewed us after the attempted hijacking of the "Mae Lee". Before
we left for Sequi, we suggested she might find an interesting story,
digging into the doings of Pickaxe and his crew. Apparently it lead
somewhere. Yesterday her ex-husband was murdered, her child kidnapped,
her workplace bombed and she was framed for it all."
He starts the vid Lessa gave them "This is graphic, be forewarned."
After the vid stops he says again. "She did not know where to turn, but
Woof. The police want her for murder, and almost certainly if they take
her in, she'll die in their custody, either at the hands of corrupt
cops or some thug in jail. She says the conspiracy reaches high levels
of Mark Internal Security, so she's even afraid to go there."
He smiles grimly. "So we went to the top." He looks at his watch. "Lady
Ryobi is schedueld to arrive here for breakfast at 0945. she doesn't
know what's going on, but the fact that we called and requested it at
0200 or so will have surely tipped her off.
"This conspiracy involves the Guild, and high level corruption here on
Mark. We *really* want to stay off their radar for the time being. As
it is, as Akus' heirs we're already known too well to them.
So this meeting and *particularly* the fact that Lessa is here and we
know her story has got to stay quiet for now."
He sighs, scratches his head.
"Otherwise I'm open to suggestions. I think we should plan on getting a
cargo, and heading outsystem sooner rather than later.
"Shawn, you do your magic cargo finding thing, I'll go talk to Ollis
this afternoon, see what's he's got for us., both info and cargo wise.
"I would think that we should be very careful about what passengers we
take on until we know more about the threat the Guild may or may not
pose towards us.
"I also think we need to beef up security, but discreetly. We're
posting a 24/7 watch as of now. Lysia, that'll your responsibility;
work up a schedule, inventory the arms cabinet, tell me what we need."
"Woof is going to poke around Starport discreetly about the Hooter
connection. Arvitis, Cory, see if anything in those tapes Akus had
match up with anyone in this vid from Lessa, or if you can glean any
more info from them. Try that photodatabase matching thing we talked
about."
"April, Ilane, get yourselves settled in. This is going to sound
anticlimactic, but your job is to familiarize yourself with the ship
and procedures. That means Zeek and Ukanav get some help with the knob
polishing and floor sweeping. If either of you are good with
electronics, help Kelly repair the 'Random Walk's sensors when he gets
back"
He turns to Shawn. "You got any ideas? Please let me know...I'm sure
I'm missing something obvious."
