Woof has been thinking hard on the subject.  His training allows him to notice the change in Mira, as she relates to Jac in the course of his contemplations.  He also picks up Kelly's tone.  Getting the information on which ship Lessa's daughter is on...

That's about as far as he gets.  If Kelly hasn't already done something, Woof steps out of his normal character and with a vargr curse tells Cory, "Shut up.  Don't be a *complete* idiot.  This is serious."

If he ignores him, and starts to the second verse, with a growl, Woof throws a punch towards the singing buffoon.

April remains in her seat. Now this was getting ridiculous.  She watches 
cautiously but doesn't interfere.

Kelly stands rooted to the deck in stunned outrage as Cory begins 
singing. "Shut up!" he barks. "Shut up, or by the gods, I'll shut you 
up!" He steps directly in front of Cory, and his eyes are blazing with 
fury now.

April shakes her head.  She stands up and says loudly, "Excuse me boys, but 
don't you think that Sir Woodbridge should be the one to come to the aid of his 
lady fair?  This little testosterone party isn't helping get the reporters 
daughter back. Perhaps you all need to work it off in the gym."  She heads out 
of the room giving Mira and Jac a look that conveys her thoughts...well aren't 
you two going to stop this bullsh*t or what.  Then she continues out of the 
room.

Mira rises and ducks under the arms and wiggles between the two upset men 
to get between them and Cory, slipping into his lap and hoping Jac won't 
take this completely the wrong way.

"Guys... let it go. Okay? He's just... him."

Jac says quietly with a neutral expression on his face as he looks at 
Mira sitting on Cory's lap, "Captain O'Brien, I don't think Si Heyst 
would be appropriate for the operation we had in mind after all. I 
believe his mercurial nature would compromise its success."

Jac turns his face to Ricardo and asks, "Do you have an alternate 
suggestion for someone to play the role of Trade Ministry Official?"

OOG> Jeez Louize I go away for *one* morning of errands and I come back

Ricardo says "Cory, Kelly, any more juvenile crap like that I'm gonna 
have to put a brig in this boat! Both of ya...go cool off! Cory act 
like a freakin' grownup, Kelly, Mira doesn't need anyone to stand up 
for her, she's perfectly capable of doing that for herself..."

To Jac "Actually, no. I don't have anyone in mind right off, but, as I 
said, since we're pretty certain that the Hootish folks are headed to 
Serbia, and two of the ships in question are headed there, I say we go 
to Serbia, we don't need to take the risk of the covert op. We know 
which ships we're looking for.

Unless you think there's some other information we might gain from the 
tapes? "

"What if that third ship is headed somewhere else with the child?" Mira 
queries softly, "The mere fact that its *obvious* that they are headed to 
Serbia could mean that's exactly what they want someone to think... buying 
time for them to increase a lead and erase a trail."

Ricardo says "Look, if they go somewhere other than where they've told 
local control where they're going, we've got an ever increasing search 
sphere. Not a winnable situation.

"These people weren't expecting Lessa to gain allies with a starship. 
Hell, they weren't expecting her to *live*.

"Odds are they turned the kid over to a real Hootish couple, and from 
their point of view it's a legitimate adoption. Serbia's the most 
likely place, then, a large population to lose them in.

Remember Tactical Planning 101, Mira...KISS. The simpler an operation 
is the more likely to succeed, given all else is equal."

He turns to Jac. "But if we still want the tapes, I'll wager Shawn 
could pull it off. He's dealt with enough MiTrade bureaucrats in his 
day, I'll be he could."

"Aye, Sir." Kelly replies a bit sharply. He's still upset, but he has 
his temper in check now.

He stops and sighs.

"No matter what anyone might think, I am *not* trained in field 
operations. I don't do this sort of thing." Jac looks at April and asks, 
"What do *you* think of the plan? Is it worth pursuing and could you and 
Shawn pull it off?"

April thinks for a moment.  "Well...I suppose it would, but are you sure that 
you'd actually want to take the time to pull it off?  I mean, we can already 
guess where the ships are going, right?  However, I *am* willing to do it if 
you decide to explore that option."

Jac nods, "Yes, I think we can be pretty sure the couple took the child 
to Serbia, or at least the ship was listed as jumping for there. Not 
positive, but pretty sure."

Years of discipline hold Kelly in place. He takes a deep breath to calm 
himself. "I won't argue the point with you, Doctor." His eyes shift to 
Cory. "I would highly suggest that you get a firm grip on the deck, 
friend." He turns and walks back to his coffee cup.
