997.274.1030: Packages for Mira and Lysia

At just after 1030, there is a knock on the sickbay door.

"I tried your cabins." you hear Jac call from outside,
"Mira, Lysia? Are you in there?"

When you open the door and let him in, he is carrying two
fairly small cardboard boxes...both look like they have been
opened.

"I didn't like looking inside, but I wanted to be safe." Jac
says, and he does look embarrassed at having opened the
packages that weren't addressed to him.

He holds one out to Lysia, "This one is to you, from Morgana."

"And this one is to you." he holds it out looking more
embarrassed, "From my mother."

Lysia blinks. "Morgana? It's not toxic is it?"

"I about as surprised as you are," Lysia takes the gift delicately between
her fingers and opens it up.

Jac chuckles, "Not so far as I could tell. Take a look."

Lysia takes the package, and it is much heavier than she would have
thought it was. When she opens it Lysia finds a white envelope on top of
a pile of things. Removing the envelope from the top, she sees a plastic
bag containing a large paper envelope, smaller paper envelope and two
data disks. Under the plastic bag something sliver colored glitters at
her. When she lifts it out she finds it is a silver tri-fold picture frame.

Opening the frame, she sees three large 20x25 cm pictures set into
Plexiglas frames. On the left is a picture of Aynaza in the middle of a
laugh as she kicks a rubber ball in the middle of a grassy lawn. In the
center, Aynaza is seated on Morgana's lap in a formal pose...both are
dressed in blue dresses and they look very much like younger and older
versions of Lysia herself...Morgana is smiling her mother's smile and
has her hand around Aynaza's waist while Aynaza has raised her hand to
caress Morgana's cheek. On the right is a close-up picture of Aynaza
asleep in her bed, covers pulled up, her hair spilling over the covers
and with an angelic smile on her face.

When Lysia gets around to opening the envelope she finds it contains a
handwritten note from her sister,

"Jez, believe it or not, I was happy to see you tonight, maybe you felt
the same. At least, we didn't have a cat fight in the middle of the
Charity Ball, so maybe we're mellowing in our...you see she has
scratched out old-age and replaced it with...maturity. I'll take good
care of Aynaza for you, and I thought you would like to have these
pictures and things."

It is signed, "M".

When Lysia opens the plastic bag and looks in the larger of the two
envelopes she finds more photographs of Aynaza in various sizes along
with two childish drawings, one of which is of a spaceship on a grassy
field with a stick figure beside it. In a childish scrawl you can read
"Auntie Ly" written under the stick figure with a triangular skirt and
long hair.

The smaller envelope contains a lock of baby's hair tied with a silk ribbon.

Lysia looks slowly through her gifts, finally after what seems like a very
long time she puts the picture frame and the drawings down. She sniffs.

"Aw crap." she moans, "I'm going to cry again."

She looks over at Jac and Mira, "Twice in one day, I must be broken or
something." She laughs as she says this, tears running down her face.

Lysia leans back against the walls, pushes her hair back from her face and
looks at the pictures again.

Jac just nods and doesn't comment. He knows that Lysia, like her sister,
never likes to have anyone see her crying.

Lysia looks at the pearls, "They're beautiful, and you've got the perfect
skin for pearls. Fair skin and pearls."

She grins a little and holds up the crayon stick drawing, "Mine's better
though."

Mira melts, "Yes, I believe you're right."

But she squeezes Jac to her, "Would you excuse us, Lysia? I promise I'll
come back later, but right now..."

Assuming Lysia is prepared to be alone, Mira leads Jac back to their quarters.

"Jac...I'm completely overwhelmed. Happy, ecstatic, in love, walking on
clouds, but overwhelmed."

Lysia nods, "You two be nice."

She watches them leave the medical bay and sits there quietly for a few
minutes before getting up and heading to the crew galley via her quarters.
Here Lysia picks up her phone and the order book from that nice little
export gun shop. You know the cute little one that looks like a castle.

When she gets to the galley she carefully clips the crayon drawings to the
fridge with the magnetic fruit, letters and pizza joint adverts that seem to
accumulate on every fridge. She sings "What will be, will be," softly to
herself as she dials up the weapon shop.

When she gets an answer...

"Glorious morning to you today, I would like to place and order, for
delivery, rush schedule for an off world departure later this evening or
perhaps tommorow morning."

"Yes I'll hold."

Lysia will look at the data disks once she's moved the contents of her room.

She also sits down to write a reply she can post out before they leave.

"I was astounded, two David's in a single room for more than five minutes
and no one was hurt. There were not bottles thrown and not one single
police officer had to interveen, when did we change Morg? I mean I like it,
no loved being able to talk to you even if it was only for a few minutes
without it devolving into something ugly."

"We'll be departing soon, tonight, maybe tommorow morning and I miss Aynaza
and you already. Doctor Mira, the one you missed seeing in the Zorn,
figures she can fix my leg up good as new. The pain has become worse over
the years and I think I'm finally ready to let go of somethings, maybe I've
finally 'matured' enough to move on."

"The pictures are wonderful, I can't believe I'm going to put this into
writing but I cried. Second time today I've cried. I'm fairly certain that
there's something terribly wrong with me."

"I want to ask you something though and don't answer me now. I want to take
Aynaza with me for one voyage next time were back on Mark. I won't tell her
a thing and I won't press the issue either. I want this to be okay with
both of you before it happens. I swear it won't be longer than six weeks
and we'll keep up her schooling. Just promise me you'll think about it."

Both contain video of Aynaza. One is of Aynaza at play with friends,
blowing candles out on a birthday cake, kicking a soccer ball, in a
party dress singing a song for Morgana and some other people Lysia
doesn't recognize. The other has move video of Aynaza, but as a much
younger child, toddling...maybe first steps, making baby noises, making
baby messes while eating, babbling, saying words, flirting crying and
throwing tantrums to get her way.

"That's not exactly..." he mumbles as he hands Mira the package.

Mira's package is light.

Inside amid the white styrofoam nuts is a thin long box wrapped in blue
and white wrapping paper. A silver ribbon tied into an elegant bow
secures the smaller box, and a small white envelope is tucked under the
ribbon.

Mira opens the small envelope and finds a short note written with a
strong cursive hand.

"My dear Sianna Hasta-Rur, When I was putting my things away tonight, I
happened to see this and thought of you in your beautiful gown holding
my JaCarter's arm. Please, accept this as a token of friendship." it is
signed formally.

Once Mira gets the smaller package open she finds that it contains a
black velvet case. Opening it she sees that a it holds a pearl necklace.
The long string of perfectly shaped and perfectly colored pearls appear
to be strung along a chain of fine white gold. They look old, and very,
very, expensive.

Jac clears his throat, "She sent you Grand Mama's pearls."

"I think you must have impressed her almost as much as you did me." he
says leaning down and kissing Mira's cheek.

That does make Mira's hand actually tremble.

Jac chuckles, "Beats me. Maybe we were just giving off vibrations or
something."

Jac says quietly, "That was nice of Morgana. Did she come in last night
at the Ball after we left?"

Lysia nods, "We danced and talked, I got her date very worked up. Honestly
it was probably the best time I've had with my sister since our parents
died."

Jac takes Mira in his arms and just holds her close. He says looking
down into her eyes, "Overwhelmed describes how I feel just holding you,
Mira."

"I hope this feeling never goes away."

She smiles, "indeed."

She snuggles into his arms, "Oh, I'll drink to that."

"So, do I have time to issue a thank you to your mother? We are hauling out
today, right?"

"You should send her a thank you note." Jac says, "Perhaps we can find
her something on our trip that we can bring back as a present?"

She nods, "I'll do that now. I have some nice stationary tucked away...
er... somewhere here. Oh, its in sickbay in my desk."

"Present... you'll have to help me. I wouldn't know where to start even
considering. Maybe I should send word to Argent and have a gown sent to her."

She twirls a curl around her finger and looks up at Jac, but she's not
really seeing him, "No. I'd have to do that personally. She doesn't think
she has 'the figure' for one. And that's totally irrelevant to the
whole...." She shakes her head, "We'll think of something."

"Want to work on this or come with me while I write your mother?"

"Work on what?" Jac looks lost, "What I should do is check in with
Ricardo about when we are lifting and if it is for Serbia. Check with
Shawn about the cargo and freight so I can put our manifest into the
spreadsheet and see how much cash we have aboard to buy cargo there and
further down the main toward Montrose."

He grins, "We aren't coming back for a while, so we can't afford to run
out of cash."

"I'll go do that." he gives Mira a peck on the cheek, "And you write
your note. We can worry about straightening the cabin later."

"Right. I'll go write and then see about other business myself. "

"Jac? I love you. Go."

Mira shoos him along and heads to medbay to write a note to Jac's mother.
It takes three versions on her computer before she's happy with the
verbiage. Then she pulls out her best stationary, a thick paper that is
subtly designed, hinting at a full flower without delineating it. In the
careful, perfect penmanship she prides herself on, she copies down the
words in flowing script. She'd had to learn to scrawl as an intern because
no one believed she was a doctor. It made her sick at first, she'd spent so
many hours learning a neat perfect hand, but she'd gotten over it. She
signs it with a practiced flourish and folds it neatly before tucking it in
its envelope and addressing it properly. Etiquette. For once she was beyond
grateful for the endless torturous sessions her mother had forced upon her.

She contacts a delivery service, one that would see it hand delivered, and
arranges for the note to be picked up.

She then turns her attention to finding out if her medical and life support
supples have arrived. If they have not, she contacts the vendors to inquire
as to arrival time.

Done.

"We show them as out for delivery, Doctor Hasta-Rur." the delivery
service says, "Um, actually, it should be arriving just about now."

Mira heads back down to the busy cargo bay. Shawn, Ukanav, Ricardo,
Ilane and even Arvitis are busy accepting cargo from a series of trucks,
then moving the crates and pallets into the cargo bay with grav lifters
and cranes then securing them into position. Mira has seen the crew
doing this before and done a little of it herself, but she is impressed
by the coordination she's seeing now. It looks like the gang is getting
the hang of doing this.

She sees a delivery truck from the company that she just talked to
pulling up beside the ship. That's probably her supplies right now!

When this arrives Lysia empties the entire arms locker into the crew lounge,
strips and cleans everything. Inspecting every weapon for defects and
making sure that everything works, new purchases and old ones as well. She
also inventories everything writing down serial numbers. Uncleaned on one
side, cleaned on the other side. Use the original crates to help transport
things around.

Four of the laser sights get mounted on the pistols, two on the SMG's and
two on the SMP's. Optic sights mount on the SMG's, if they don't come with
them that is. If they do mount them on the shot guns and put 2 flash lights
on the shotguns and 2 on the SMG's.

Once that's done she loads every one of the magazines she purchased. HE
mags get a black mark, tranq mags get a green mark and dart mags get a blue
mark. A single wrap of tape around the mag will work just fine provided it
doesn't foul the pistol grip mags. If they do mark the butt end of the grip
magazine.

Store everything in it's own place in the locker.
