Mira, Lysia, and Jac leave the /Mae Lee/ and walk over to the Terminal Building. Once inside, Jac spots a bank of public comm terminals and points them out to the others. "Jez, why don't you go look up the local library's address while Mira and I arrange transportation?" Jac says and adds with a grin, "And no, we're not taking your hot pink caddilac *this* time. I want to rent something we can use while we're here. We'll save your 'bomb' for a time when we need to impress the natives." With a cheery wave he and Mira stroll over to a vehicle rental kiosk while Lysia uses the terminal. Lysia quickly learns that there is a large public library downtown at the corner of Walton and Jackson streets. When she turns around she sees Jac and Mira, holding hands, walking back toward her. Jac is twirling a set of keys with his free hand. "I got us a nice boring passenger van that seats 8." Jac smiles, "Not stylish, but elegant in it's utilitarian simplicity." Eris AKU GM

Lysia looks about the cargo hold quickly, she's pretty sure she left the car in storage back on Mark and only brought the motorcycle. Understanding the basics of starship economics taking up a great deal of floor space with an oversized land yacht is simply a bad idea. Economically unsound if you will and she's pretty sure that Ricardo would spend all his time behind the wheel making car car noises and neglecting his captain's duties if there were a car to play with. > With a cheery wave he and Mira stroll over to a vehicle rental kiosk > while Lysia uses the terminal. > > Lysia quickly learns that there is a large public library downtown at > the corner of Walton and Jackson streets. She taps her radio, "Uk, I'm headed out with Jac and Mira, the fort is yours. Just keep the doors locked."

Jac insists that Mira sits beside him and that Jez does NOT drive. :) And so they travel down the, not very busy streets arriving at a 4 story red brick building with the words "Serbian National Library" engraved in white stone above the wide wide stone steps leading up to the large double doors. "So, I guess this place still has old style books and such." Jac says as he parks in the parking lot. He asks Mira, "What was that book that Arvitis wanted us to look up again? Jez appears to be ignoring Jac and Mira, so... Jac shrugs and looks at Mira, "She's a big girl, I'm sure we can leave her to her own devices." With that the pair enter the library and leave Jezebel Lysia David on her own. Inside the library the pair look around. There is a lobby here where books, or media, could be checked out or returned using what appears to be an automated system. There are several terminals along two of the walls with the sign, "Catalogs" above them. There is also an opening at the end of the lobby leading into what appears to be the actual stacks where the books, and other media, are stored. Jac whispers, "Mira, why don't you ask the librarian over there about that book Arvitis wants?" He nods toward the restrooms off to the side and says quietly, "I have to excuse myself for a minute." Mira sees the librarian that Jac meant, an older woman seated behind a wooden counter. She hasn't looked up from the terminal where she is studying something intently. There are two placards on the counter next to where she is sitting. One says, "Quiet please" and the other says, "Ask for help here." Eris AKU GM

Inside she's quite pleased at the difference from the usual scout minded men she'd become accustomed to. "Very well." says the librarian. She takes out a pad and writes something on it, then tears off a sheet and hands it to Mira, "If you would take this to the Librarian on duty in the Archives, she will make the two works available to you for viewing." "The Archives are through these doors, and down a level. There will be a sign pointing the way." she says and finally ventures a small smile. "Thank you." Jac says smiling then arm in arm with Mira the pair proceed to the lower floor. In the Archives they are met by a young man who takes the note from Mira and asks you to wait while he fetches the works. He returns about 10 minutes later with a pair of metal boxes with paper labels glued to their surfaces. "The book on the Nore Cluster is in here." he sets one box down on a table. "And the other...Extacy to Skypar...is in this box." he places the second metal box next to the first "Because these are so rare, we can't allow them to be removed from the library, however we have copy facilities were data carts containing images of each page can be made." There is a release button, and when Mira presses it she hears a short hissing sound. The archivist says handing Mira a pair of plastic gloves "We keep the *very* old books in air tight containers and immersed in a non-reactive gas to better preserve their paper and ink. I'll leave you with it, but please use the gloves...and be very careful." Mira opens the box and finds a small hardbound book inside. There is a paper book jacket still on it proclaiming in faded red letters that it is "Nore Grup Xplored." As she opens the book she finds that the pages are only slightly yellowed and not brittle at all. She also finds that she can't read the language. It is similar to the standard Ganglic that everyone speaks, but the spelling and syntax is off. There *are* some charts and pictures scattered through the slim book, though. I suspect Arvitis will want to actually *look* at this book once we tell him it is here, but if he wants to do more than look he'll have to make do with a scan." Mira opens the second box and removes another book. This one is in worse condition, the paper is yellowed and dry and the ink is faded, and there is no book jacket over the books worn edges. This is another "travel book" with star charts and what are probably descriptions of the mainworlds of those systems. Mira can't read the language, but she recognizes part of one star chart that shows Marc and Servia off on the lower right side...clearly that is Mark and Serbia. There is a world labeled Newtown just coreward of Servia that is certainly Newton on the new maps. It appears the charts in this book are mostly for worlds spinward and coreward of Mark. Any information in here could be as useful to *your* ship when it moves down the main as much as to Arvitis. Eris AKU GM

"This book is in far worse shape, so I won't pull it out to show you, but I recognized some points on one of the charts in it... namely Mark and Serbia and stretching ahead in the direction we're headed! I think we'll definitely need a copy aboard the Mae Lee. Especially if Arvitis can translate the text that goes with them." She smiles, "Now, lets go request the additional copies and then figure out how to kill a couple of hours until they are ready." She impishly deposits the box into Jac's arms. Mira

Jac takes the box and grins, offering Mira his other arm, "At your pleasure, m'lady!" The couple give the box to the librarian, who tells them the two copies will be completed before he goes home at 1700, but that the library doesn't close until 2100, so they can come back and pick up the copies from the night librarian on duty down here. The charge is going to be 76 credits. "So, what now?" Jac asks, "Find a cafe and have a spot of tea?" The couple do find a small cafe and drink cups of hot tea with small sweet pastries, then window shop along a street of small shops. There is the sound of a police siren a couple of streets over, but it quickly stops and they don't hear any more disturbance, nor see anything out of the ordinary on their walk. On their return to the library, Jac gives the money to the librarian and they take delivery on two data cartridges with hastily applied paper labels on the outside giving the titles of the books they contain. It is just after 1700, time to return to the ship. Their van is in the parking lot, but where is Lysia? Eris AKU GM

Mira doesn't see any place that might immediately draw Lysia's attention, but she can comm her, and she does. The comm connects and rings.... OOC: We'll see if she answers. :) Eris AKU GM

She's a big girl and can take care of herself." He gives Mira a wink and adds, "I bet if we drive around a bit, I can find us a nice quaint restaurant where we can have dinner, and then we can go find Arvitis and give him this book we had copied....*or* maybe we could wait until tomorrow to do that, hum?" Jac reaches over and taps the off button on Mira's comm grinning, "Yes, let's!" He opens the van door for Mira and helps her up into the cab. "I did a little investigation of my own while you were looking over the books." Jac says as he drives the van away from the library and out toward the country side, "I found a listing for a little hotel about 10 klicks out of town in a little seaside village. How does dinner at a quaint little pub, followed by dancing and then a room with an ocean view sound?" Eris AKU GM

"Then let's go do it. You can call the ship on the way and tell them we're taking the night off and not to disturb us for anything short of an emergency." Jac says as he drives the van. Mira smiles and dutifully uses her comm, still in hand, to dial the ship and relay word. Mira

Where am I and what's going on when it rings?
