The pair back pleasantly then head up the gangway to
talk to Wolfgang and Cory.

The man and woman hold out their hands to shake with Wolf and Cory.

The man says, "Good afternoon, I'm Orion Link and I think you have
some cargo for me? I hope you do anyway. Oh, and this is Joyce
Ellis. We're the two cargo brokers here on Serbia. Hopefully we can
do some business."

"Business is always a pleasure," Cory smiles at the pair. "And yes we have
some cargo for you," he adds before forcing himself to pause and look to
Woof.

Woof shakes their hands as well. "Mr. Link, Mrs. Ellis. A pleasure!"

"Carry on," Woof grins, since Cory's doing well. "We do have cargo," he
says looking at the clipboard. "Where do you want it delivered?"

Link grins and yelps out, "Great!"

He seems very excited, "I'll get trucks out here *today* and pick up
those consignments."

The woman, Joyce, says with a chuckle, "Can you tell he's been
sweating this delivery? I think he would haul the stuff off your
ship with his bare hands if he had to."

Link laughs and replies, "You're right Joyce. I've got buyers that
have been chewing on my hind side for the past two weeks looking for
this stuff."

Cory leans around as if to look at Links rear, "We've got a Doc that can take
those scars out,... If, you can come up with something cheap, that Newton
just has to have."

Cory's hips wag once as he catches Ukanav's eye.

Link chuckles, "Now that you've got those cargo lots here I'll have the
funds freed up to put together a good selection of cargoes for you."

Joyce says, "If you're heading toward Newton then our agricultural
products will be very good sellers there. They have a population of
upwards of 90 billion in the Newton system and can only feed themselves
on mass produced protein pastes and things like that."

Link nods, "And don't miss trying to get a cargo lot of their famous
fabrics. There is something or other in the gas giant Newton's main
world orbits that produces something unique that they've learned to turn
into godslight fabric and shimmer silk."

Link pulls out a portable comm unit and makes a call, "Hey, Chick! This
is Link. The freight has finally arrived. How soon can you get the
trucks...30 minutes? Great! I'll tell them you're on your way."

"Trucks should start arriving in 30 minutes to start off loading my
freight." Link says putting the comm unit away.

This appears to be dragging a bit so :

chat chat chat

"As you can see we are all new to this, what are some of the things the other
ships brought in?"

chat chat chat

"Really do you normally get this much traffic?"

chat chat chat

I know you answered this to someone else

"Oh so you don't have much left that needs to go off world? I'd hate to get in
a bidding war over cargo with Captains we'll be having to work with."

chat chat chat

"I guess I should make an effort to meet some of the Captains and Crews. Do
you know any of them?"

Chat Chat chat

"That one ship,, looks almost familiar, but I can't place where I saw it. Do you know
where they came in from?"

Yes I'm fishing. I just thought I'd save you the time of making up all
the responses to the small talk it takes to set up an interrogation

"We can always use industrial goods, especially high tech parts." Link
says, "Agricultural robots and equipment. I know the Hooters won't use
it but they are only a small part of our population and the rest of us
try to keep up with the times."

Joyce adds, "Air/raft parts, machine tools, computers, even toaster
ovens and microwaves."

> "As you can see we are all new to this, what are some of the things
> the other ships brought in?"

"The small ship had some wines and spirits and some spices." Link says,
"They aren't all *that* valuable here, but we'll make a profit on them
and we want to encourage traders who drop by to drop by again."

Joyce says, "The other ships that are in port..."

Link breaks in, "One brought colonists from Newton and some equipment
for them, and the other didn't seem to bring *anything*. They dropped
off some passengers, but they were running empty of cargo. If you ask
me, a damn fool way to run a far trader!"

> "Really do you normally get this much traffic?"

"Almost never!" Joyce says, "A couple of ships a month come down to the
planet. Almost all the traffic stops at the gas giant and passes
through. What trade we get is mostly shipped in or out by shuttle."

> "Oh so you don't have much left that needs to go off world? I'd hate
> to get in a bidding war over cargo with Captains we'll be having to

"We never said that!" Link holds up his hands, "I'm sure we can load
your holds with agroproducts if you're heading for Newton."

Joyce says, "Fill them to overflowing!"

> "I guess I should make an effort to meet some of the Captains and
> Crews. Do you know any of them?"

"All of them are here for the first time." Joyce says.

"The Captain of the colony ship is named Rici Wuzuto. He seemed like a
nice enough fellow, but he's Gwi, and they tend to be pretty formal."
Link says, "The smaller ship's Captain is Smith, Shan Smith..."

Joyce breaks in, "No, that's Shawn Smith."

> "That one ship, Cory does>, looks almost familiar, but I can't place where I saw it.
> Do you know where they came in from?"

OOC: I think it's the Bright Star isn't it? The one the Hooters were on?

"They came in from Mark with three passengers and no cargo." Link says
shaking his head.

> Yes I'm fishing. I just thought I'd save you the time of making
> up all the responses to the small talk it takes to set up an

OOC: The trucks start arriving shortly and you spend the rest of the
afternoon supervising the unloading of the freight. It all goes fairly well.

Cory shakes his head, synchronizing his disgust with Link's, "Only three? They
must have paid a pretty penny for those berths."

"Wonder what they're running from," he mumbles as if to himself.

OOC: As long as I don't correct you then that's fine. :)

The brokers don't know anything about it, though.

Dealing with the cargo takes up all the rest of the afternoon.

Nothing much from Chick about trade and such, but he'll happily chat
about local conditions with you as he supervises the teams unloading
the hold and loading the trucks.

"Yeah, the Hooters have a big colony here." he says at one point,
"Almost all down on the south continent, though. They don't use
modern equipment down there, but that doesn't stop them using grav
craft to ferry colonists down there and products back up here for sale."

At another point, "The big ship brought in a load of colonists from
Newton...poor sods! None of them are farmers, all city folk and
belters, but here they'll get 40 hectares and *maybe* a tractor and
be expected to make a living. Some do, most don't and either end up
emigrating back to where they came from, or working for somebody in
one of our towns."

"Maybe." Joyce frowns, "but..."

We can't afford *not* to do business with anyone that comes, but if
you or that Smith fellow take all the best goods it'll serve that

Once you do, the crew's and ship's comms should all work through the
Port's network, so you can call each other from anywhere that the
locals can.

"Maybe." Joyce says, "Maybe."

dropped by to see them. Said they'd call us if they were interested."

The network is connected and working. Everyone's comm should work with
everyone else now.

It is nearing sundown when the last of the trucks leave. Woof, Cory, and
Ukanav are tired from the work and are sitting on the edge of the open
cargo hatch drinking cold beersis and relaxing when they see Arvitis
striding across the tarmac toward the ship.

Ukanav comments, "Good beersi! Oh, did I mention Woodbridge called."

He makes a slightly rude sound as he half sips, half laps, more of the
dark beer, "He and Doctor Mira are going to be out overnight. I was
going to tell Captain O'Brien, but I haven't seen him in several hours."

"Do you know where he is?" he asks as he waves toward Arvitis.

Arivits arrives and calls out grinning, "Ahoy, mates! I've had a
rewarding afternoon. Have you seen Mira? Is she back?"

"No, I didn't have Captain watch. But he's probably got his comm, if you
want to buzz him." Woof gives him the standard Captain-in-Port number.

"Exploring the Bird Beak." Arvitis says waving his free hand around
excitedly, "I've got a lead on the lost imperial library that we've been
searching for. If we are the first to find it it will be big."

His eyes glaze over and an idyllic grin crosses his face, "REALLY BIG!"

Then he focuses on Cory again and says, "Where is my densitometer, Cory?
I'll need it when the time comes!"

"Woof," he turns back to Woof, "Where is Ricardo. We need to be
prepared to lift as soon as I can pin down where that library is located."

"On your desk, but don't you think we should find the little girl we came here
for first?" Cory asks, "I'm sure it would make her mother ever so much more
happy than Exploring the Imperial Library's Bird Beaks, don't you think?"

"All those in favor of saving the girl before messing with bird beaks raise
your hands," Cory asks as he looks around the group, his hand thrust high in
the air.

Arvitis nods, "I didn't think about that."

Ukanav says, "There are a lot of Hooters on this planet, and finding one
little girl among all of them is going to be like sniffing out the white
mouse from the nest."

Arvitis says, "There are *several* Hootish communities on Serbia.
According to the info I picked up at System House in town. I wasn't
looking for *that*, but while I was there, I thought I'd run a query,
you know?"

"Which of the colonies do you think she's been taken to?" he asks quietly.

"No, not the Library's Bird's..." Arvitis starts, then stops, "...Oh,
yes...that."

Arvitis looks exasperated, "Well, I suppose so, but..." he trails off
looking somewhat deflated, "If that's what we have to do first, I wish
you'd all get on with it!"

"So, what do we do first?" he asks Cory, and then turns to Woof, "What
have you done so far, to find that girl?"
