They are very interested in what you tell them of the Confederation
planets. It seems they haven't made it down as far as Argent and the
systems around there.
They talk to you about Newton, Montrose, Leuet, Gaston and a little
about their home system of Muan Gwi. You pick up:
Newton is highly populated and in many ways poor. There are dozens of
space habitats orbiting the large gas giant around which its main world
orbits. The main world is a poor one with thin atmosphere and little
water, but the atmosphere of the gas giant and two other moons orbiting
it are teaming with life...life not really compatible with humans or
vargr, but life none the less. Newton produces several fabrics that are
highly valued in other systems, how they do it is a closely guarded
secret. They are always in the market for food stuffs, especially
gourmet and specialty foods.
Montrose is the capital of an aggressively expanding mercantile empire.
There are several systems in the Montrose Hegemony and several more that
are closely tied to her economically. The Monties don't really like
competition from merchants from other systems, but they put up with
them. Montrose's Ship Yards are the best in this area of the Quental
subsector, and they make a good bit of money building and repairing
ships as well as exporting ship parts to other systems. With their
wealth they import luxury items, things like the Newton fabrics, tobacco
from Mark and Sequi and the wins and spirits of Leuet.
Leuet is the breadbasket for this area producing large surpluses of
agricultural products. The population of Leuet is rather rich and a big
importer of consumer and high tech goods. Leuet's ship yards can repair
any ship and can build standard ships from the parts they import from
Montrose. Up to now, Leuet has maintained it's independence from
Montrose, but it's really a fiction. Leuet has become very dependent on
Montrose for it's imports and Montrose's merchant fleet for the holds
that carry her exports. Someday soon Leuet will probably officially join
the Hegemony...and that worries the Gwi.
Gaston is a large, high population, water world. They are officially
part of the Hegemony and have a large Naval base there...right on the
door of Muan Gwi. Gaston's local government is a religious autocracy...a
very serious religious autocracy with an extreme level of laws and very
serious penalties for breaking any of those laws. Gaston's claim to fame
is her expertise in the design and manufacture of gravitic vehicles.
They make everything from huge gravitic vehicles that skim across her
broad oceans to small luxury speeders and everything in between. The
sale of Gaston's grav vehicles all over the Quental and parts of the
Argent subsectors has made her fairly rich, especially the leaders of
her Mother Ocean Church.
Muan Gwi is an independent system between the Hegemony and the CSA. It
is a rich and powerful system with a large population and a high
technology level. Gwi is a representative democracy where the
representatives come from family clans rather than areas of land. She
has a strong navy and a small merchant fleet which trades through out
the area. The Gwi don't produce anything all that special, instead they
specialize in moving the things that other people produce from place to
place for a profit. Generally, the Gwi would prefer to be left alone to
their own devices, and continually worry about the encroachment of
Montrose ideas and Argent and Mark lifestyles upon their traditions.
