997.281: /Mae Lee/ -- Woof Takes A Call

Del is waiting for you to question him when the comm buzzes. Woof
reaches over and looks at the ID of the caller. It is Mira.

He puts it through to his message box. At least he knows she's ok. He
thinks.

He rethinks his logic while he's asking Del the question, and so thinks he
should check it to make *sure* she's ok... The call has already gone into
his box, so he excuses himself and tries to break into the message he thinks
she's leaving...

Mira hears the message, swears, hangs up and recomms the ship. Repeat
until someone answers or Jac appears at her side.

Woof hears Mira swear and hang up, and then his comm buzzes again. It is
Mira again.

Woof swears in Vargr, a smile in his voice. "What? I'm trying to interview
here!" ;-)

Mira gives a playful growl back, but the stress shows in it.

She forces herself to keep her voice gentle, "Our favorite Aunt sent a
message. Our little neice took a turn for the worse and we need to have
a family discussion with all the nearby cousins. Jac and I will be there
in three or four hours so you have time to interview before we get
there, but try to have everyone at hand when we get there, ok?"

Mira hopes he sort of understands.

As she speaks, he moves toward another area of the room. "Be right back,"
he says to Del, stepping away but observing him.

"Ah. So you'll be back shortly, and need an owners meeting? Must be pretty
serious. Including those we dropped off, or just the ones aboard?"

>Mira hopes he sort of understands.

Woof turns back towards Del, moseying his way.

"You on ground or need a lift? I could take a Walk out there...maybe even
bring our prospective engineer along and then I could talk with him on the
way... Make for a quicker time."

"Thanks, Woof. I'll let Jac know. I'm sending the coordinates along."
Mira signs off and relays to Jac that Woof thinks they have a line on
the girl.

He's coming to pick us up, so lets get a last round and then roust our
bags and such.

"Oh!" Jac says, "If they think they have a line on her, then we *must*
hurry. The villians could be preparing to do away with the girl as we
speak!"

"Right!" Jac says. and you do so.

You have everything, no real luggage you know, in the van and are ready
for the arrival of Woof in only a few minutes.

OOC: Sure

"Captain," Woof says, after Ricardo answers the priority call he placed.
"Sorry to bother you. I got a call from Mira. Seems they have a pressing
development and wanted to talk it over with you. I though I'd go pick them
up so they'd get back quicker. Thought I'd take Del in the Walk. OK with
you, or should I just wait?"

Once the word is given to go, Woof gets himself armed with a pistol, and an
extra mag. Just for precautions.

"Del, why don't you come along. We can talk while I drive. Do you drive?"

Ask about the certs to start off, then about the ship he was on, why he
wanted off, and finding one of his comments to build on, what it was like,
and about their last trip that seemed so strange to him.

"Ship's boat?" Del stands, "Yeah, I can fly one."

Seeing the pistol, Del's eyes open wide and he asks, "Is there trouble I
need to know about?"

> Ask about the certs to start off, then about the ship he was on, why
> he wanted off, and finding one of his comments to build on, what it

He has Engineering certs and has been free lancing from ship to ship for
a number of years rather than settling down long term on one. He's from
Mark and has worked on Mark, Argent, Zeristu and Montrose flagged ships
over the years. He's not a member of the Spacer's Guild, so he's stayed
away from the big Argent lines lately.

"This last ship?" he frowns as he drives, "Crazy, mean and crazy. The
Captain, Captain Winter, treated all the crew...except his two
friends...like dirt. He was no better with passengers or cargo brokers.
The passenger cabins stayed empty most of the time and the hold was
never full, but Winter always had enough money to keep the ship flying,
and there was never a regular route, it changed without warning and the
crew *never* got a real leave because a three day down time on planet
could change into an emergency lift in the middle of the night at the
drop of a hat."

"This last trip was more of the same, only this time instead of no
passengers, or only one, there was a Hooter family." Del says, "Strange
to have Hooters aboard *that* ship. You could see that Winter didn't
like them, but he and his cronies left them alone. The Hooters' little
girl stayed in the cabin almost all the time and cried. The doc said she
was sick, but I wouldn't trust anything Doc Oasis said. He's worse than
Winter."

"I did get a chance to talk with the father a few minutes one day. He
seemed like a fairly nice guy...for a Hooter." Del continues as he
flies, "Said they were going to a colony here on Serbia. I asked how he
rated getting the whole ship to himself and he said that 'the lord
provides'...yeah, like Winter cares one yuan what God thinks."

After having run down a little he glances over and Woof and says, "Sorry
for going on like that."

You have about 10 more minutes before the boat arrives at the location
Mira provided.

"Good. Never hurts to have extra drivers."

"No, there's not. I just don't like the idea of hauling around in a
multimillion credit boat without some type of security. My salary isn't
high enough for that," he adds with a grin. "You like to plink targets?" he

"Yeah, isn't that the truth!" Woof agrees. "Independents are the way to go,
I'm convinced. With the right owner and crew, and profit sharing
agreements, you can sometimes do pretty well. Sometimes, that is. How
about that last ship of yours. Skipper said you guys came out empty. You
can't make credits that way."

"No kidding? What were they like? Was it the 'Rumsfelds'? Aren't they all

"Huh. Doc Oasis. Was he one of the 'two friends' you were talking about a
little earlier? And the Hooters chartered your ship?" he asks
incredulously. "Did they always stay hidden away and were they afraid of
the technology like I've heard tell?"

"No problem. Which colony, did they say? I understand they have a couple
here. In fact, I'm doing some research into them...kind of a hobby, and I
was planning on going down with the port captain as a guide to see one of
the colonies tomorrow. So you're giving me a little bit more to go on." He
kind of muses to himself, "I should talk to the Purser on the /Star to see
if they had any diet issues. But thank you!" he says returning to Del.

"What? No, Hunter...Frank Hunter and um...wife was Celiste, I think." he
says, "He only said her name once, mostly it was 'Mistress Hunter' this
and 'Mistress Hunter' that. You should have heard the filthy jokes
Captain Winter made about 'mistress' when the Hunters weren't around.
Never heard the little girl's name. She was just 'girl' or 'child'..or
'brat' when Winter spoke of her."

"Yeah, Oasis and Ichero were Winter's cronies. Oasis is the doc and
Ichero is Winter's First Mate and the navigator on the ship." Del says,
"But there wasn't a charter, Winter just took them aboard and said
'We're lifting in two hours.' Canceled all the leaves, left at least one
broker in the lurch with cargo on the tarmac. Just crazy!"

"Don't know what colony." Del replies, "Just that it was on the
'southern continent'. A big grav craft picked them up not long after we
landed and they were gone. Winter, Oasis and Ichero have been holed up
aboard ever since. Gave the rest of us the night off for liberty."

> "So how long were you with the /Star? And presuming you want to join

"I was aboard the /Star for 3 months. Joined her on Mark, took a run
into Zeristu space then back out onto the main and back to Mark." Del
says, "Frankly, if this is a good position, and it's a mutual decision,
I wouldn't mind sticking around permanately, but I'll stick with you
until you reach Montose anyway. I can pick up another ship there easily
enough, you see."
