Once Ricardo and Lysia finish at the Port Captain's office they head
toward the offices of the brokers.

The brokers have their offices next to a large warehouse near the
starport. The sign above the door says Link and Ellis Import/Export.

When you reach the door you see a smaller sign that says Joyce Ellis
and Orion Link, brokers.

Joyce Ellis and Orion Link are the two brokers you are looking for.

Ricardo enters the office. "Hello. You guys rang the Mae Lee?"

Inside the office there are two desks, one is empty and the other is
occupied by Orion Link.

"Good to see you again, Captain!" says Orion as he stands up and
offers his hand, "Joyce is out in the warehouse doing an update on
the inventory to confirm what we have and what we need to ship out."

"From your comm it sounds like you are in something of a hurry to
lift." he says, "I hope that doesn't mean you've not enjoyed your
stay here on Serbia?"

Lysia smiles and adjusts her glasses, "Actually I've been having a
delightful
time, the jail cells in town are particularly comfortable."

"Exactly, what kinds of cargo were we looking for today boss?"

Ricardo shakes.

"Nah, just itchy feet, and more important, a schedule to keep. I've
got a deadline to Montrose with a fair pile of credits on it.
Besides, we may be here a few days more if that alters things, since
we've got some passengers may or may not be ready to leave. I should
know as soon as my purser calls me."

As if on cue Ricardo's fone rings. He pulls it out. "Honest...I
didn't plan it this way..." he says to Orion, and flips it open.

"Ricardo. Yeah... well that's great Woof! Get the stores sorted out
and I'll talk later. I'm at the broker's right now. As usual, you
have impeccable timing."

He turns to Orion and says "When do you want to start loading? I'm
going to be fuelled up later today, we should be ready to boost any
time everything and everyone's loaded."

While they're discussing things Ricardo says, "Hey, you know that
stout they serve over at ...You know
where I could contact the brewery? That was some good stuff, I'd like
to pick up some for the ship, if not for a little spec."

time. :)

Orion says, "Standard cargo rate is 1,000 cr a ton, and we've got a
lot that needs to go out.

He checks his computer and says, "Well, from here to Newton we've
got several cargoes that need to go out. Let me go over them with
you...and I assume you'll be heading from Newton to Wrothag and then
on to Montrose, correct? So, I'll check for those systems, too."

"To Newton we've got...

1. 1 10 ton load of hard wood
2. 5 lots of grain (15, 10, 25, 15, and 25 tons) totaling 90 tons
3. 1 2 ton lot of jam from Hardy farms

..."for a total of 102 tons."

"From here to Wrothag we've got..."

4. 1 50 ton lot of wood
5. 2 lots (40 and 50 tons) of grain totaling 90 tons
6. 6 lots of assorted foodstuffs (5, 5, 10, 25, 15, 20) total is 80

..."that's another 270 tons."

"And let's see, from here to Montrose we've got..."

7. 2 tons of mail...that's a security shipment, do you have a
separate lockable cargo compartment for that? If you do it'll pay
10,000 cr per ton.

8. 4 lots of grain (40, 30, 20, 50) totaling 140 tons
9. 1 5 ton lot of wine
10. 1 20 ton lot of beer
11. 1 5 ton lot of vendu beef

"...that adds another 172 tons. So, the grand total is 544 tons of
cargo that we have going out. How much of it do you want?"

> While they're discussing things Ricardo says, "Hey, you know that
> stout they serve over at ...You
> know where I could contact the brewery? That was some good stuff,
> I'd like to pick up some for the ship, if not for a little spec."

"Let me call the brewery for you." Orion says, "I'll see if I can
get you a deal on some of it if you want. My fee is only 3% of the
negotiated price."

OOC: I'll let you know what Orion negotiates, or if you turn him
down what *you* can negotiate with the brewery once you let me know
which way you're going. However, you also find the following
possible speculative cargoes while you are looking around....you can
choose any or none of them as well as any of the ale you negotiate for.

A. Statuary. 5 dtons @ 250,000 base.
Buy mod Na -2, Ni -2, Po -6 => AVT modifier -2.
Sell mod In +2, Ri +4.

B. Petrochemicals. 1 dtons @ 10,000 base.
Buy mod In +1, Na -4, Ni -5 => AVT modifier -5.
Sell mod Na -4, Ni -5, In +3.

C. Furniture. 35 dtons @ 15,000 base.
Buy mod Ag -1, In -4, Po -2 => AVT modifier -1.
Sell mod In +2, Ri +4.

D. Strong Acids. 9 dtons @ 15,000 base.
Buy mod Ni -2, Po -1 => AVT modifier -2.
Sell mod In +4, Ri -1.

You can consider the UWP's for the 3 systems you are visiting next
to help you decide what to buy...

Newton: A652A9C-A Hi Po
Wrothag: C578221-6 Ni Lo
Montrose: A966845-A Ri

Ricardo's feeling generous. "You know them, you do it."

I'm thinking these, both for sale on Montrose.

Not exactly a security fence...it's a separate cargo compartment...

Cargo Space Volume Handling Equip Stere/hr
  Large Bay 4620 m3 (330 dtons) Grav 1638 LS

  Small Bay 140 m3 (10 dtons) Manual 20/person LS

You left Mark in a hurry, remember? So you only had cargo aboard
that was being delivered to Serbia (here). Your holds are empty, so
you can take on as much as 350 tons (up to 20 of that in that locked
down small cargo hold.

Orion gets busy and comes back to Ricardo with what he says is the
best deal he can make, "They can let you have 15 tons at 2500 cr per
ton, that's a very good deal." You think so too.

Okay...you'll need to decide on which freight and how much of it
you'll take, then figure out how much room you have left for you
spec cargo.

Does it have to be locked by itself, or just in a locked bay? I'm
thinking we can put out spec cargo and the mail in the small
compartment, and stuff the rest full.

That would work. As long as the mail is locked up, it meets the
requirements. It doesn't matter what else is locked in there with it.

Well, I went digging through the archives to see what money we had
and found something...

I'm not sure we're empty...It looks like we came off Mark almost
full, in fact.

Thread starts here:

Was the ships cash on hand everything we had at the time? And was
that before or after getting the money from Roscoe for the tobacco
and wine, and the regular freight? When did we get paid for this
shipment, is this COD? What cash do we have on hand?

Ricardo would have known if our hold was empty or nearly full.
According to this Shawn loaded us with 175 dTons of stuff for Newton
alone.

Summary:

for Newton: 175 dT
for Serbia: 133 dT
Spec: 20 dT (probably sold here, but for how much?)

328 dT total

Per standard practice, 20 dT for passenger/crew luggage. we have 320
Dt total space.

Presumably Shawn poached on passenger space for the extra 8 dT since
we had none.

So, we actually look like we have only got 145 straight cargo dT
left, plus anything Shawn transferred to the "Blue Rain".

...UNLESS all that never happened in our haste to lift back on Mark.

It's Eris' call, but IAC I need to know how much cash we have on hand
then.

Your memory is better than mine...so I dug around and found the

you left Mark...

...okay, you've been paid for the shipments to Serbia and sold the
Computer parts at 144,000 per ton. This brought in 997,000 credits
which you added to the 510,000 cr you had in the ship's safe for a
total of 1,507,000 cr. You also would have had 144,000 cr of Shawn's
money on the safe, but you transfered that over with the other funds
before he left. Jac turned over Shawn's 144,000, plus 320,000 of the
ship's money to the /Blue Rain/ people before they left.

Final line...
That leaves you with 1,187,000 cr in the ship's safe....and 137 tons
of free space to fill. I'm updating the spreadsheet now.

If two of these come through, sorry, but I sent a reply and cannot

All Main.

We'll take all 15 dT Beer, reserve 2dT for ship use, 12 as spec cargo.

Is this in keg or bottled form? How much is in a dT of beer, anyway?
Maybe we only need to hold onto 1 dT, but this is clearly crew of
drunken layabouts, why else would they have elected me Captain :-P

IAC, this brings us to 18 dT free cargo space left for passenger
cargo. I ended up swiping 2 dT from Passenger/Crew space to fit it
all. We can park Jez'es bike in the "Random Walk", get another dT.

This leaves us with only 124500 cash in the bank, but we're getting
$200K on Newton in freight charges, plus a bunch in passenger fares.
Unless Woof lays in nothing but filet mignon and beluga caviar for
supplies,. we should be ok.

Woof just loads up the standard supplies, a few specialties, and as many
passengers as he can. He also approaches Ricardo about how to carry Lessa
and Rachel for the time being: Supercargo? Working passage? Asst

Once supplies are added and the ship is refueled, the cash is down
to 92,500 cr.

Woof finds Ricardo once he is back aboard and talks to him about
Lessa and Rachel....

The cargo and freight are loaded aboard and the passengers board the
ship. Supplies are delivered and fuel is being refined back in
engineering. The ship is getting ready to lift.

As far as Ricardo is concerned, they're family. Maybe we can cadge
some credits out of MNN when she gets back from her reporting series
"The Road to Coreward: Mark's New Frontiers?" or something. For the
time being Lessa can help around the ship, and Rachel can concentrate
on being cute. We kinda knew she was with us for a while when we
left. Besides, never can tell when a reporter's eye and cover might
come in handy, like access to news archives and such.

Ricardo, having looked over Cory's jump calcs, and decided that they
looked good, settles himself into the pilots seat on the Mae Lee's
bridge.

He comms Engineering. ""How we doing down there, Del? You ready to
take the old girl up?"

Presuming the answer's in the affirmative, he calls Port Control.
"This is Captain O'Brien on the MMS Mae Lee requesting clearance for
takeoff and transfer to orbit."

Presuming THAT answer's in the affirmative, he toggles the general
comms.

"Afternoon, folks. This is the Captain. We'll be lifting shortly for
orbit. If you're in your staterooms, channel seven on the screen will
show the view from the ventral camera, channel eight the view from
the nose. Welcome aboard the Mae Lee."

Ricardo toggles on the grav drives, says "Showtime, folks!" and lifts
the Mae Lee off the pad and onto the assigned flight path to orbit.
