Okay, JR (any character), Bob (nothing on character yet) and
Greg (human male, former Scout, piloting skill) have indicated
that they want to play so far.

The ship the PC's will be flying to Wonstar from Glisten is
going to be a Jump 1 ship...probably a 200 dton free trader,
but that might change depending on circumstances. The job can
be done with a crew of 3 and I can take on another 3, let's
say, for a roster of 6...so it's first come, first served. I'm
going to insist on PC's that fit in with the rest of the crew,
misfits and outcasts need not apply. Quirky is okay, nasty,
rude, loner, angst-ridden, or psycho is not okay. If you get
ya ya's from the psychological aspect of roleplaying then you
need to go for subtle here.

Oh, and I think I'll name the ship /Akus Moby/ in keeping with
the list's name. ;)

Well, there goes my entire character profile - right out the airlock ;-)

How about I take the engineering slot with a side of gunnery and steward?

I think I'm going to go for cargomaster/trader with a dash of something else...maybe piloting and/or astrogation.

Engineering with a side of gunnery works for me. :) Bob
appears to want to do a cargomaster/trader with a dash of
bridge skills. You could do the engine room thing with gunnery
and a dash of either steward.

Still waiting to see who else wants in...army/marine type
might be handy, as would somebody with medic skills, and
another bridge or engineering type wouldn't go wanting.

Ok, been a long time since I worked up a CT character, so here's the
description:

Issac Chowdhury, born of lower middle-class parents, got into med
school, got kicked out of med school in his second year over some
incident he won't talk about unless you get him really drunk,
enlisted in the marines, got additional medical training there on the
basis of his previous qualifications, served as a MASH nurse/
assistant/etc to the docs, (I'm guessing kinda like a nurse
practioner level of training)

He saw combat, most notably while working a frontline aid station
during the retaking of Jewel (it was Jewel the Zho's took, then we
got back, right? I'd have to find my old TNS printout...) anyway,
something like that.

Using Paul Walker's Excel CT generator (books 1-4),

and recalculating until I saw a few with medical, I ended up with:

Marine Lieutenant 5346B8 Age 30 3 Terms Cr 7,000
Admin-1, Computer-2, Cutlass-1, Medical-1, Revolver-1
1xBlade

I'd kick Medical up to 2, and drop Computer to 1 (if it had been 2 he
wouldn't have been caught and kicked out of Med School :-) and trade
Soc for Dex, since a doctor with a low dex doesn't work for long.

B education works as Med school is post secondary. Admin works if he
was working in a hospital-type setting, like a MASH unit. Docs and
med personnel typically have sidearms, hence revolver.

so:

Issac Chowdhury
Marine Lieutenant 5846B3 Age 30 3 Terms Cr 7,000
Admin-1, Computer-1, Cutlass-1, Medical-2, Revolver-1
1xBlade

Sound about right?

The 1xBlade is a war trophy Zho Officer's sword. made of some Zho Damascus Unobtanium type
'light-but-strong' metal. Very nice. Very sharp.

Thanks to his Cutlass-1 he can even swing it around without lopping
off his ear.

Issac is pretty sanguine fellow. His stint in the marines awoke his
inner traveler, so he's bummed around from place to place; with his
med qualifications he can always get good paying temp work.

Sounds just fine to me! :)

What should we use to gen the PCs, Eris? Regular CT ruleset using the 8 main books?

Keep it simple. I'm tempted to say...just books 1-3. :) But,
okay, I'll allow 1-8. :)

Frankly, you can just say..."I think I'm going to go for
cargomaster/trader with a dash of something else...maybe
piloting and/or astrogation."...roll up the characteristics,
and use the character concept to fill in the skills (pick 'em
from the lists if you want), and that will be good enough for me.

Remember in CT, you can try almost anything whether you have a
listed skill for it or not and...

Skill 0 is Familiar
Skill 1 is Competent
Skill 2 is Good
Skill 3 is Great
Skill 4 is Master
Skill 5 is Superstar
Skill 6 is Superdupperstar

...and anything above that is GrandDad territory! :) So, don't
be dismayed if your character has 4 skills with the highest
being 2 or 3.
