Issac Chowdhury - Bruce Johnson

Issac Chowdhury -- played by Bruce Johnson
Marine Lieutenant 5846B3 Age 30 3 Terms Cr 7,000
Admin-1, Computer-1, Cutlass-1, Medical-2, Revolver-1
1xBlade

The 1xBlade is a war trophy Zho Officer's sword. made of some Zho Damascus Unobtanium type
'light-but-strong' metal. Very nice. Very sharp.

Thanks to his Cutlass-1 he can even swing it around without lopping
off his ear.

Issac is pretty sanguine fellow. His stint in the marines awoke his
inner traveler, so he's bummed around from place to place; with his
med qualifications he can always get good paying temp work.

Approved for play!

I've been pondering ('Are you pondering what I'm pondering Pinky?'
'I don't know Brain....isn't a elephant too big to fit into that
dollhouse?') Issac, and have come to the conclusion that he's
entirely unrealistic...barring his receiving severe brain damage in
the Marines, there is no way a kid with a SOC of 3 is getting into
med school with a below average intelligence.

I think his INT should be kicked up several notches, say B, C or
D...he's a street kid, or was raised by wolves, or in a Romanian
orphanage or something. The ONLY thing he has going for him would be
INT for that kind of career.

As it is, he can lift a can of peas off the counter, barely, and gets
out of breath walking down the hall...and not only doesn't know which
fork to use, he's barely aware he needs to use a fork...(which also
means I've got to change how he's behaving as well. I'm probably
going to go with bookish and awkward, which ties in with the physical
stats.)

Every other character in the game has three, four or five stats well
above average...If I play him to his stats, this is just going to be
a long exercise in frustration, I think, and likely kill other
characters if he actually DOES have to practice medicine.

Hmm. I can see him having been reduced through wartime activities to a 5 and 4 for STR and DEX as a temporary basis--he's on the mend right now, y'know? Be a good reason for a purple heart--but you're right--unless he now has a metal plate in his head from the same incident that reduced STR & DEX, his INT should be much higher.

Be an interesting backstory with those two characteristics--but INT, I concur, should be bumped up.

Unless he's someone's favored nephew.

It can be considered to be most inconvenient when workers allow ethics to interfere with the smooth operation of any organization.

I agree, end 4 is a bit low for a marine unless they are damaged. Hell, I've
been retired since 2002 and I don't think I'm down to a 4 yet. Though I must
admit, I'm making steady progress, "Where there's a will there's a way."

Photographic memory could also explain it. Of course with a soc of 3 and
photographic memory, conversations should be an interesting juxtaposition of
the inane cliche, amazing quote and perverse factoid.

Guess it's a good thing they have high end.

Which brings up another question. In CT how are stats used? Is it the
mod(5)=die adds like MT?

I'm thinking he came in under wartime duress; also he came in as
needed medical personel, so they might have overlooked some physical
deficiencies.

Or he could have been wounded, yeah...another thing to tweak.

LOL! That's why I said for you guys to talk the characters
over. I'd have played Issac as highly educated (in Medicine
anyway), but not too good at coming up with independent or
creative ideas. His low social class...hum, body odor? ;)

Rats! Now you've given away my secret plan. Get the PC's I
don't like on the operating table and let Fumbles...oops...,I
mean Issac, take care of them for me.

Bruce if you want to play around with the stats, it's okay
with me.

Are you sure you don't underestimate your powers of
dissipation. ;)

Bruce, tell you what...how about your permanent levels are
something like STR-7 and END-6, but you're still recovering
from your "injuries" in the just ended war. With time you're
levels can go back up to your "normal" levels.

That's what a head wound will do to you? :) No, go ahead and
boost that up some unless you want to play the idiot
savant...probably not a great idea as Lord Percy is going to
have that role nailed down...oops, don't want to tell you too
much about that. :)

Not with SOC-3...unless Issac...oh! OH!

About that SOC-3, I wonder if Issac comes from Zhodani, or
Sword Worlder, space. His accent might give his background
away. Sword Worlders and their friends are going to be very
unpopular folks in the Spinward Marches at this point in time.

Earl, in straight CT, the attributes, like STR, are not
divided by five and added to skills. The skills pretty much
stand alone with the die roll. The attributes aren't really
used except for rare DM's here and there and for things like
damage. I'll pertty much just "wing it."

I didn't. I just kept the PC generator going until it came up with stats I liked and the character survived to 20 years...

Ahh, thanks, I'll take bookish, socially awkward, beat-up-by-fellow-
street-urchins nerd with poor manners over being lynched any time.

Lets say he's got a sword-ish accent. Among the adults in his young
life were some down-on-their-luck Swordworlders who would entertain
the impressionalble 4-year old with their outlandish tales of heroism
and adventure. For a couple of years there he consciously emulated
them; strong traces of a Swordy accent still show up in his voice.
It's not so strong that he'll be taken for a Sword Worlder, just
enough that it sounds bad. (otherwise he couldn't be successful as a
Marine, learned Admin and Liason...he'll stick to the rules (Admin)
and defer to the opinons of others (Liason))

And no, not BO, that really brings to mind a RL Traveller GM we
played with once upon a time...bad memories. Guy turned out to be a
real piece of work...

We'll have to replay that initial meeting with Merinn, though...

IC>

Issac chuckles, a little too loudly.

He raises his glass "To sordid stories...we
all have 'em, they're what keeps life from being boring and
predictable. That's a life for groundheads, uh groundhogs..."

As he says this, Issac thinks 'That's actually smooth...wow, she
MIGHT not think you're a total dweeb!'

However, in his haste, slightly tipsy from the beer, and surprised by
his spontaneous eloquence, he raises his glass too swiftly and a
large dollop of beer sloshes out and towards Merinn...

With a quick move she slides her chair back and the liquid
splashes in front of her. Only a few small drops bounce off
the table onto her clothing. Looking down she sees her shoes
weren't quite so lucky. There is a large wet spot on the floor
and both of her shoes have received a good splatter of beer.

Around the lounge the quiet murmur of voices stops as
everyone's eyes turn toward you.

Merinn smiles and shakes her head as she calmly slides back to the table.
"See? Just another sordid story." She wipes up the spilled beer on the table
with a napkin. "So, have you met anyone else from the crew yet?"

Issac turns bright red ."S-s-sorry!" He lunges across the table with
a napkin, toppling his glass. "ACK!" He quickly slaps down his arm
to stanch the advancing beer flood. "Sorry!" He grabs the table and
tilts it away from them as the beer sloshes onto the floor. He
quickly gabs the glasses to prevent their following, rights the
table, then sits down with a "Whoof", arm dripping beer.

He looks at Merinn with something panic and acute embarrassment in
his eyes.

Merinn answers the waiter and turns back to Issac. "Relax," she says as her
eyes dance with amusement. "It's just beer, and you can't actually die from
embarrassment." She picks up her cola and takes a drink, heedless of the
beer dripping off the bottom of the glass.

LOL! I thought it might...but then I'd have never gotten
confirmation that Earl cheated. ;)

Guys, I've had raging sinuses for several days now that's why
I haven't been posting. I'm sorry. I'll try to be better.
