Your course to your jump point is ready for your download." is the response from Control, "You will have a 2 minute launch window. Inner doors closed and bay depressurization under way. Repeat, five minutes to launch window opening, depressurization commencing, seven minutes to close of launch window for the ship Akus Moby." Four minutes later, the comm squawks with your transponder number and Control says in a clipped professional voice, "Sixty seconds to launch, repeat sixty seconds to launch." As the synchronized clocks tick down to zero, Kirkor brings the maneuver drive up and when the launch window opens, the comm squawks again, "Akus Moby, outer doors opening and your launch window is open. Have a good trip!" On the screen Kirkor sees the doors open and sees the green lights indicating the gravitic mooring contacts have disengaged freeing the ship to move on its own. Eris Akus Moby

Up in the pax areas, Paris bustled about, ensuring that everyone was settled and happy; she busied herself settling out the evening's repast--it wouldn't be ready to serve until an hour after Jump, but still... ...small snacks and drinks were the order of the day; preparing and gauging her job as it seemed to be balanced against the initial impressions made by the passengers was the order of the day... ...and she was looking forward to taking off her shoes and moping about in the galley in her bunny slippers after everyone up here went to bed.

Paris gave him a smile and smoothed her skirts; "Thank you," she said, "I've not been thinking--everything else has been so overwhelming." She picked up the small comm microphone and announced, "Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to introduce our Doctor, Dr Issac Chowdhury, who is offering, for those in need, anti-nausea medications of the pre-jump variety." She paused. "He will remain in the central area for the next twenty minutes--and would like to let you know that he has medical illness calls each morning at 0800 ship's time, as well as on-call response as needed for emergencies." There was an emphasis on the word 'emergency'. Paris hung the microphone and looked at Isaac. "Good?"

Lord and Lady Johanson are both in the lounge. Lord Saul is chatting with Pender Louis and Jon Smith about the unsettled conditions in District 268 and the effects that might have on the development of that area by Imperial interests. Lady Jane is talking with Penny and Margie...the two young woman travelling together...about setting up a bridge game. Lonnie Morris, a tall good looking young man agrees to be their fourth. Penny is a rather plain young woman in her early 20's with light brown hair and shallow skin. Margie, otoh, is more attractive with a shock of red curls and green eyes, she might also be a year of two younger than Penny. Paris gets the impression that Penny is the leader of the two, as she seems to be the one that always takes the lead in everything with Margie following along behind her. Lord Percy comes out of his cabin to join the others. He still seems quiet, perhaps somewhat depressed, but he begins to make small talk with the other passengers in the lounge. Paris notices that he seems somewhat "interested" in Margie, as is the passenger Lonnie Morris. > ...and she was looking forward to taking off her shoes and > moping about in the galley in her bunny slippers after > everyone up here went to bed. >> About a half hour before jump, Issac goes up to the pax >> areas, finds Paris. "Good?" Lady Jane raises her hand, "Aye! I'm afraid I'm not a hardy jumper. I'll be taking advantage of Dr. Chodhury's offer *and* spending some time in my stateroom." Penny says, "We've got our own anti-jump sickness pills...Margie and I." Margie nods smiling, "Took them before we came out of our stateroom. Thank you for the offer, though." None of the men profess a need for the medications, but Lord Percy comes over to Paris a bit later and whispers, "If I'm not blotto, then I'll need your pills, but I'd rather have a fifth of vodka and a dark cabin with a soft bed to lie on." OOC: Guess I have too! :) I've been watching a mystery a night for the last few weeks alternating among Peter Whimsey's, Midsomer Murders, Perry Mason, The Saint, Poirot, Rosemary & Thyme, Inspector Allyn, Sherlock Holmes, and Miss Marple. That's my summertime viewing fare, over 300 hours of viewing excellence, and even repeating them is better than what's available on the air. And now PBS is running some new Mystery episodes (Jericho, Foyle's War, Miss Marple) on Sunday nights, too! However, I'm probably not planning a ship board murder...right now...so you don't have to worry *too* much about that. :) Eris

I wish I had that time to watch tube--well, i do at work, but we're rather redneck here--we watch CSI, pro wrestling, and a lot of "Ultimate Ninja" contests.I'm happy when I get them to put our tube on this side of the room on the weather channel.

OOG: As a note, there is, in the galley, a continuously maintained hot water pot for tea (complete with teabags), coffee always on and refreshed about every six hours or when needed, and midrats composed of sandwiches and snack-cakes for the crew. Paris is nothing if not motherly when it comes to the crew.

Bellsouth accepted it for delivery (you'll note the bounce came from Bellsouth's mailer-daemon, not the Phoenyx's) which should mean there was nothing wrong with the SMTP transaction between us and them. After that I can only rely on what their server said, which as you saw was remarkably little.

After Lady Jane leaves the lounge, Penny and Margie approach Paris and Issac. "I say!" says Penny, "If we have enough people interested, what about organizing a bridge tournament for our trip? As the ship travels toward the jump point, Des and Mirren prepare the jump drive for operation. The power plants are brought to full power and the capacitors charged...it will take 20 minutes to fully charge the capacitors, and they can hold that charge without discharging for a couple of hours, so charging them up early, just in case, is SOP. The jump netting on the hull is powered up, checked (for the nth time) and put into standby mode. The lanthanum rods and the zuchai crystals are double and triple checked as you await the big moment. Everything in engineering looks like a "go for jump." Eris Akus Moby

OOC: I guess Greg is busy with his basement, so I'll jump in here... Sasha nods at Sharda and pluses the grav drive controls pushing the ship out of the docking bay. Seconds later, the ship in open space, you can see the bay doors sliding closed behind you. The Captain engages the maneuver drive and the ship arcs away from the rock. To all sides of the corridor the ship is travelling you can see, both visually and on the sensors, boats and ships of all size flitting about to and fro among the asteroids of this cluster. Glacing at the screen, you can see that your jump point is an hour and 12 minutes away at 1 g. Glisten moves ships well away from the heavily trafficed areas around the habited clusters before giving them permission to jump out. Ships jumping in also target areas well away from the high traffic areas. Eris Akus Moby
