18/1111 Overnale (1937)

Right on time, the ship emerges from jumpspace. The bridge crew begins to take in the data from the sensors and radio. Yes, they are in the Overnale system..as expected..and the local Starport is on the standard channel broadcasting general directions for all ships entering the system to put their transponders on channel seven and await contact.

The ship's sensors build up an image of the system. There are four ships...at least, four ships with active transponders...in the area. One is outbound from the planet toward its jump point and three are in orbit around the small blue planet.

Seventy three seconds after the ship enters normal space the radio pings with an incoming message from Overnale's Starport...they await you activating the radio and accepting their message.

Back in Engineering, the jump drive is shut down and the maneuver drive is being brought on line. All the controls look good.

Most of the passengers where in the lounge playing bridge when the ship emerged into the Overnale system. Except for a momentary pause in the play the game continues as the bridge tournament draws to its close.

Everything continues to look good as the ship's maneuver drives come online. There is slight, momentary, movement under foot as the ship begins to accelerate which disappears after an instant. That isn't unusual, but it does mean the gravity compensators aren't *perfectly* tuned.

Backwater, balkanized, the smaller states are always squabbling...if not fighting...and "unethical merchants" have been known to use the smaller starport, and town, as an R&R spot, thus there is very little raiding in the Overnale system, so as to not draw unwanted attention. There is also an arms dealer in the Melorn city state that is a pretty big exporter of small arms.

Oh, and most of you have heard of the Sea Monsters, from which "Monster Oil" comes. The Monsters are huge beasts that prowl the vast seas of Overnale devouring just about anything in their paths.

Paris felt the ship's vibration change just before transition through the soles of her shoes--and touched lightly the bulkhead, bracing herself instinctively.

Most of the passengers where in the lounge playing bridge when the ship emerged into the Overnale system. Except for a momentary pause in the play the game continues as the bridge tournament draws to its close.

Breathing an unnoticed sigh, she tapped the intercom and smiled. "Captain, Pax area, transition complete."

18/1111 Overnale (1937)

Back in Engineering, the jump drive is shut down and the maneuver drive is being brought on line. All the controls look good.

Paris stands at the wall intercom waiting to hear from Sasha as

she watches the passengers finish the last hand of bridge.

"Thanks Paris," Sasha replies. "Do you have plans for dinner already, or could I break you away from the bustle and take you to dinner?" he asks, knowing she'll probably say there's too much to do on initial planetfall. But it is worth the risk of being turned down...

She smiled, a gentle smile that she knew wouldn't carry through the intercom but by tone. "That'd be fine," she decided on the spur of the second, "just as soon as we're pax-clear and cargo's downloaded."

Paris raised an eyebrow to herself--they'd spent time together--but this really was the first by-themselves dinner they'd had since...probably two years now. "You find the place and I'll dress the part."

Issac puts a 'Closed' sign on the sick bay door, and starts going through defrost cycle checklist for the low passengers. How far out are we?

Typically, it will be a couple of hours...at least...before you ground on the planet. Issac knows he can "defrost" one sleeper every 10 minutes...or so. He probably doesn't want to bring them around before landing, though, because there really isn't any room for them to run around the ship.

What he can do is check the low berths and do all the preparations to get ready to wake the sleepers.
