"Look, if it's money?" after drawing a deep breath she says, "My friends in Parlek have money, they can pay you to get us there...." it looks like she wants to plead with you, but pride is stopping her.
"Captain," Merinn turns to Krikor, her face pale. "Whatever we do,
we
can't turn her over to the people," her eyes go flat, "here. We
would do
better to kill her ourselves; it would be far more merciful."
He glances at Merinn and holds up a hand to tell her to stop. "I've thought of that. Had we already been in jump when she was
discovered..."
he lets his voice trail off. "I asked you a question."
The young woman says, "I am carrying the Meadows heir."
Having finished his own plate, Bart leans forward and takes a biscuit
off the
captives plate. He leans back in his seat, winks at the mouse, and says, "Sure don't eat like it's for two," before popping the last biscuit in sight into his mouth.
Paris gave Bart a small, warm upturning of her lips, acknowledgement of the compliment but otherwise says nothing, awaiting the captain's decision and words.
"Meadows Heir." Nod. Its a statement, not a question. "Were you a numbered, accounted for part of the stevadore group that came aboard or were you smuggled into that group too? Will *that* group of sloth dung be missing you, in other words?"
He waits for an answer to better know what might be coming. He needs to talk to Percy offline about the ramifications of getting involved in local politics...
"Isaac, good job this morning. Can you please verify Ms Meadows claim? At least as far as actually being with child?
"Bart? Stay with our, er, guest. But I'd like to know how we got penetrated so easily, and have your recommendations to see it don't happen again.
"Des, help Bart with his recommendations. Oh, did the yards do a good job of cleaning out the vent-tubes before we took over?"
He looks over at Merinn. "We've got a lift window at 1430, by the way, inbound Parlek. Make sure we don't miss the window.
"Paris, after we're done here, get a hold of Dr. Solaski, and ask him about delivery schedules and such. We can either take the ship there on the way, or we can just rent an air/raft and deliver his cargo. Need to see what he recommends, what his location can support. Might not be able to bring the ship in over there. Let me know your recommendations. Then start on getting a line on buyers for our cargo.
"I'm going to do a bit more research on this here world, and on Dibpo Island in particular. I think we can carry a passenger to Parlek with us, but keep me apprised of any developments. Oh, and I dislike orange jumpsuits... Questions?"
